Frequently Asked Questions – Warehouse Coordinator Jobs Middelburg Mpumalanga 2026
What counts as “retail warehouse experience” for this post? Retail warehouse experience means prior work in the receiving, storage, stocktaking, and dispatch functions of a retail store’s warehouse or storeroom — as opposed to industrial, manufacturing, or distribution centre warehouse experience. Experience at agricultural retailers (such as other AFGRI branches, Senwes, OVK, GWK, or similar), hardware retailers, farm supply stores, or large-format general retail warehouses all qualify. Experience in pure distribution centres or logistics hubs without a retail floor component may be considered but candidates should indicate the nature of their warehouse environment clearly in their CV.
What agricultural products will I be managing in the AFGRI Middelburg warehouse? AFGRI’s Middelburg agri-retail warehouse handles a comprehensive and diverse range of products typical of an agricultural supply store — including bulk and packaged feeds (cattle, poultry, game), seeds and planting material, crop chemicals and pesticides, fertilisers, hardware and tools, irrigation equipment, fencing materials, gas cylinders and LPG products, and personal protective equipment. Knowledge of this product range — particularly the storage, handling, and compliance requirements for chemicals and gas — is a significant advantage for candidates applying for this post.
Why is gas cylinder management specifically mentioned as a key responsibility? Gas cylinders (LPG and related products) are classified as hazardous goods under South African legislation — including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated regulations. Agricultural retailers commonly stock and sell gas cylinders and refills. The Warehouse Coordinator is responsible for ensuring these are stored in designated, compliant, ventilated areas away from ignition sources — with correct signage, handling procedures, and storage registers maintained. Failure to comply with gas cylinder storage regulations can result in serious safety incidents and significant regulatory penalties.
What does cycle counting involve and how is it different from full stocktaking? Cycle counting is a continuous stocktaking method where a portion of the total stock is counted on a rotating basis — rather than counting all stock at once. In a large agricultural retail warehouse, counting the full inventory weekly would be operationally disruptive — so cycle counting allows specific sections, product categories, or high-value items to be verified on a regular rotation throughout the month. Full stocktaking is a comprehensive count of all stock, typically performed monthly or quarterly. The Warehouse Coordinator is responsible for managing both processes — ensuring accuracy without unnecessarily disrupting daily warehouse operations.
Is the post-matric qualification required strictly in warehouse or supply chain, or will other fields qualify? The advertisement states a relevant post-matric qualification without specifying the exact field — suggesting flexibility. Qualifications in Supply Chain Management, Warehouse Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related disciplines are most directly relevant. Candidates with qualifications in other business or management fields should apply and indicate the relevance of their qualification to warehouse operations in their covering letter — AFGRI will assess equivalency as part of the shortlisting process.
How does the EE designation affect my chances if I am not from a designated group? An EE position means AFGRI will give preference to qualifying candidates from designated groups (African, Coloured, and Indian South Africans, and persons with disabilities) when making the appointment decision — as required under the Employment Equity Act and AFGRI’s EE Plan. Candidates outside these groups are not prohibited from applying, and if no suitably qualified EE candidate is available, the position may be filled by a non-EE candidate. All qualifying candidates are encouraged to apply regardless of EE status.
