What Does an Artisan Diesel Mechanic Do at Mega Bus?
Artisan Diesel Mechanics at Mega Bus are responsible for keeping the depot’s fleet of passenger transport vehicles in safe, reliable, and roadworthy condition. In this role, you will service, diagnose, maintain, and repair all mechanical aspects of the fleet — including Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Scania, and MAN vehicles — working across engines, transmissions, braking systems, hydraulics, and auxiliary systems. You will respond to breakdowns, complete job cards and service records, and ensure all work is performed to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
This is a technically demanding, hands-on workshop role that requires a qualified Diesel Mechanic trade certification, 3–5 years of experience on heavy commercial vehicles, strong fault-finding and diagnostic capability, and a commitment to safety and quality in every task.
Key Responsibilities of an Artisan Diesel Mechanic
Servicing & Preventative Maintenance
- Service the depot fleet in accordance with predefined service schedules and inspection checklists.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to identify potential mechanical issues before failure occurs.
- Ensure all servicing activities comply with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records for all vehicles in the fleet.
Breakdown Response & Repairs
- Attend to vehicle breakdowns and carry out fault finding, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel-powered vehicles.
- Perform mechanical repairs on engines, transmissions, braking systems, hydraulics, and auxiliary systems.
- Test vehicles after repairs to ensure safe, reliable, and roadworthy operation before returning to service.
- Provide breakdown support during operational or peak production periods as required by management.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Apply occupational health and safety rules and regulations in all aspects of workshop and field work.
- Ensure all mechanical work is performed safely, including correct isolation of systems and use of required PPE.
- Maintain vehicles and equipment in line with legal requirements and company policies including roadworthy standards, licensing, and statutory inspections.
- Report all unsafe conditions, incidents, defects, and near misses to the supervisor immediately.
Vehicle & Equipment Compliance
- Ensure fleet vehicles and equipment remain compliant with statutory regulations, roadworthiness requirements, and internal standards.
- Identify non-compliance risks and implement corrective actions where possible.
- Support audits, inspections, and statutory checks related to vehicle and equipment compliance.
Workshop Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly workshop environment at all times.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are correctly stored and free of hazards after every job.
- Contribute to safe working practices and good housekeeping throughout the workshop.
Reporting & Administration
- Complete job cards, service reports, and breakdown documentation accurately and timeously after every task.
- Provide regular feedback and reports to management on services completed, breakdowns attended to, and outstanding repairs.
- Record parts used, labour time, and follow-up requirements in accordance with workshop administration procedures.
Ancillary & Support Duties
- Assist other artisans and technical staff with mechanical tasks where required.
- Perform ancillary or related duties as reasonably required by management from time to time.
- Support workshop objectives relating to safety, productivity, quality, and continuous improvement.
Minimum Requirements – Artisan Diesel Mechanic
