About the Role

At Brights Hardware, our supply chain is the backbone of our customer promise. The primary purpose of the Code 10 Heavy Vehicle Driver within our busy Building Department is to guarantee that construction materials, bulk hardware, and inter-branch inventory transfers are delivered accurately, punctually, and in immaculate condition. Positioned as a vital link between our warehouse floor and our client construction sites, your performance directly drives customer satisfaction, generates repeat sales, and sustains the business unit’s long-term growth and profit margins.

This associate-level distribution position demands a high level of logistical accountability, mechanical awareness, and leadership. You will take full responsibility for your delivery vehicle—conducting meticulous pre-trip roadworthy inspections, filling out daily trip sheets, supervising assigned truck assistants, and navigating the most cost-effective paths across the Western Cape. Because you are delivering heavy building components directly to residential and commercial clients, you must blend sharp heavy-vehicle maneuvering skills with a polite, professional, and customer-focused attitude under heavy pressure.

The ideal candidate brings a proven three-year history of incident-free commercial heavy driving, a thorough understanding of vehicle weight loading principles, and exceptional communication skills. Joining the Brights Hardware franchise network provides an associate logistics specialist with superb career stability, standard-setting fleet resources, and a highly collaborative, inclusive working culture where every individual contribution is valued.

Please note: Maintaining a valid South African Code 10 Driver’s License along with a completely valid Public Driving Permit (PrDP) for Goods and Passengers is a strict, non-negotiable legal requirement for this transport role.

Possession of a Matric certificate, completed Intercept training courses totaling 120 credits, or a minimum of three years of heavy vehicle operation experience with verifiable references will be highly prioritized during the screening phase.

Key Responsibilities

Heavy Vehicle Operation & Fleet Maintenance

  • Operate Code 10 delivery trucks safely, responsibly, and defensively at all times, complying fully with national traffic laws, speed limitations, and urban road regulations.

  • Conduct daily pre-trip vehicle inspections to verify basic roadworthy standards (checking brakes, tires, oil levels, and lights), ensuring all findings are noted on the official trip sheet.

  • Report any mechanical defects or physical damages immediately to your transport supervisor by completing a comprehensive vehicle repair report to avoid operational downtime.

  • Maintain complete, accurate records on daily trip sheets, documenting starting/closing kilometers, exact departure/arrival times, and fuel intakes.

Cargo Management & Delivery Coordination

  • Supervise and monitor assigned truck assistants closely, ensuring they remain with the vehicle at all times and adhere to safe manual handling procedures.

  • Ensure all outgoing building stock, bricks, timber, and hardware items possess correct invoice or transfer documentation before allowing items to be loaded.

  • Understand and supervise the proper distribution and loading of the vehicle, ensuring heavy weight is balanced correctly to prevent shifting or inventory damage during transport.

  • Record all inter-branch inventory transfers in your logbook, ensuring the receiving branch signs the register upon safe delivery of the materials.

Customer Relations & Branch Support

  • Provide exceptional customer service on-site, communicating politely with building contractors, residential clients, and staff from all corporate branches.

  • Plan and execute the most efficient, cost-effective delivery routes to ensure absolute punctuality while minimizing wear and tear on fleet assets.

  • Submit detailed weekly evaluation reports and daily closing briefings to your direct supervisor at the end of every operational day.

  • Participate actively in regular perpetual stock-takes, supporting warehouse teams with inventory counting and material organization during scheduled store audits.

Minimum Requirements

Experience & Licensure

  • Valid South African Code 10 Driver’s License (possession of a higher classification code, such as Code 14, will be considered a distinct advantage).

  • Valid Public Driving Permit (PrDP) certified for both Goods and Passengers.

  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience operating heavy commercial vehicles or delivery trucks within a retail, building, or logistics environment.

Education & Training

  • Matric certificate (National Senior Certificate) OR three completed Intercept courses equating to a total cumulative value of 120 credits.

  • Alternative Pathway: Candidates without a Matric certificate will be fully considered provided they hold a valid license, PrDP, and a minimum of 3 years of verifiable professional heavy driving experience.

Skillsets & Competencies

  • Excellent capability to handle intense operational pressure, manage tight delivery deadlines, and solve transit problems calmly.

  • Strong planning, organizing, and time management skills to map optimal routes and manage delivery drop sequences.

  • Sharp monitoring and supervisory skills to direct truck assistants and manage physical vehicle loading safely.

  • High-level reading, writing, and verbal communication skills in English to accurately verify delivery notes and liaise with corporate clients.

Legal & Physical Requirements

  • South African citizenship or possession of a valid, permanent residency document allowing full-time employment.

  • Clean criminal record and clear traffic offense history, to be verified through pre-employment background screening.

  • Physical fitness to operate heavy machinery and supervise the offloading of large building materials.

KINDLY NOTE THAT IF YOU ARE NOT CONTACTED WITHIN 2 WEEKS AFTER THE CLOSING DATE OF 10 JULY 2026, PLEASE CONSIDER YOUR APPLICATION AS UNSUCCESSFUL.
