Retail Point of Sale and Customer Service Opportunity
A leading retail store is recruiting a Cashier (External Applications Only) to ensure accurate handling of all Point of Sale (POS) transactions while delivering excellent customer service. Purpose of the Role
The Cashier ensures the accurate processing of all POS transactions and documentation to support customer satisfaction and operational compliance.
The role focuses on maintaining balanced cash handling, accurate transaction capturing, and secure management of daily takings.
Attention to detail and strict adherence to company procedures are essential to prevent financial discrepancies and shrinkage.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 (Matric) or a minimum of 1 year work-related experience.
Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language spoken in the geographical area.
Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
Strong administrative skills.
Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and Public Holidays.
Ability to work under pressure in a busy retail environment.
Cash Handling Responsibilities
Ensure all allocated cash, including floats and petty cash, balances accurately with no shortages or overages.
Correctly identify and capture all goods on the POS terminal.
Accurately record the correct payment type received from customers.
Ensure sufficient change is available at all times.
Conduct pick-ups accurately and within set company parameters.
Complete accurate cash-ups at the end of each shift.
Ensure all daily takings are dropped into the Drop Safe or vault according to company procedures.
Process transactions relating to other stores’ money, deliveries, and quotes correctly.
Maintaining strict cash control standards is essential to protect company assets and maintain financial integrity.
Administrative Responsibilities
Sign, compile, and file all documentation related to cashier functions.
Maintain organised and accurate records for audit and compliance purposes.
Ensure all transaction documentation is processed and stored according to company standards.
Ready for Business Compliance
Adhere to operational readiness standards and company procedures.
Ensure compliance with all point-of-sale and operational guidelines.
Customer Service Responsibilities
Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service when checking customers’ goods in and out.
Direct customers to the relevant staff member if additional assistance is required.
Maintain a professional appearance and comply with the company dress code at all times.
Customer service excellence contributes directly to positive shopping experiences and brand loyalty.
Safety (OHSA) Requirements
Ensure customer and staff safety within the area of responsibility.
Report any safety discrepancies to the Store Manager.
Comply with Occupational Health and Safety standards at all times.
Security Awareness Responsibilities
Ensure system password control at the till point is strictly adhered to.
Safeguard cash and follow proper procedures when transporting funds to the cash office.
Maintain high security awareness to prevent losses and fraud.
