A leading retail store in Kabokweni, Mpumalanga is recruiting a Perpetual Inventory Controller (PIC) to ensure accurate stock management, variance investigation, and compliance with internal operational procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting physical cycle counts, reconciling system stock, investigating discrepancies, and supporting stock control processes to minimise shrinkage and operational losses.

Purpose of the Role

The Perpetual Inventory Controller performs daily physical stock counts and verifies quantities against system stock on hand.

The role focuses on identifying discrepancies, capturing variances, and reporting damaged stock, incorrect pricing, and SKU errors.

By maintaining accurate stock records, the PIC supports store profitability, operational efficiency, and audit readiness.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Matric) is required.

Minimum 1 year of work-related experience or 2 years’ related experience.

Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language of the geographical area.

Must be literate with strong numeric skills.

Basic computer skills are required.

Must be accurate and able to work under pressure.

Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays is required.

Perpetual Inventory Counts Responsibilities

Conduct daily stock counts according to the PIC Count Cycle.

Investigate all stock variances, whether positive or negative, and report findings to the Store Manager.

Investigate and rectify negative stock quantities daily after receiving approval from the Store Manager.

Identify and report damaged stock to management.

Conduct mini stock-takes when instructed by management.

Assist with Wall-to-Wall stock-take preparations and report areas of concern.

Normal PIC counts must be conducted during full stock-take periods.

Maintaining strict count accuracy is essential to prevent shrinkage and stock loss.

Reporting Responsibilities

Report daily variances to the Store Manager and/or Divisional Manager as required by company procedures.

Report all irregularities in accordance with internal operational standards.

Escalate irregularities to the Divisional Manager if no corrective action is taken by the Store Manager.

Report incorrect pricing, poor SKU control, damaged stock, and merchandising issues.

Report on bulk stock areas that require special attention.

Effective communication and detailed reporting ensure transparency and operational control.

PIC Adjustments Responsibilities

Ensure all stock adjustments are actioned, verified for accuracy, and signed off by management.

Validate the End of Day Report against the previous day’s PIC Adjustment Sheet and file accordingly.

Report any adjustments not completed on the day of the count cycle before the end of trading.

Maintaining proper documentation and accuracy in adjustments is essential for audit and compliance purposes.

Filing and Administration

Ensure all PIC documentation is completed accurately and signed off by both the PIC and Store Manager.

File all documentation daily according to company procedures.

Administrative discipline supports accountability and compliance standards.

Ensure that stock control processes align with store operational expectations.

Customer Service Responsibilities

Adhere to the company dress code at all times.

Ensure the name badge is displayed and visible to customers.

Provide immediate assistance with customer complaints when required.

Safety (OHSA) Requirements

Ensure customer and staff safety within the area of responsibility.

Report any safety discrepancies to the Store Manager.

Ensure correct safety equipment and protective clothing are used.

Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations is mandatory.
