Purpose of the Role

In addition to production duties, the position requires maintaining merchandising standards and delivering excellent customer service within the bakery department.

Minimum Requirements

Matric (Grade 12) is required.

Applicants must reside close to the store.

The candidate must not have an allergy to flour.

Product Preparation Responsibilities

The Bakers Assistant must adhere strictly to ingredient selection and preparation methods as outlined in the recipe manual.

All recipes must be executed using metric units to ensure consistency and product quality.

The role requires attention to detail when mixing, preparing, baking, and finishing bakery products.

Daily analysis of sales, customer order books, and wastage must inform the drafting of the production plan in collaboration with the Baker.

Accuracy and consistency are critical to ensuring product availability and meeting customer demand.

Merchandising Responsibilities

The Bakers Assistant must follow the bakery merchandising flow guidelines.

Products must be displayed with categories grouped together to ensure an organised and appealing presentation.

Merchandising must be visually attractive and aligned with company standards to enhance the customer shopping experience.

Maintaining product freshness and rotation standards is essential.

Customer Service Excellence

The successful candidate must provide customers with undivided attention when serving within the bakery department.

Customer queries must be answered professionally and redirected to the relevant supervisor or manager when necessary.

The Bakers Assistant should actively promote bakery products to help achieve sales budgets.

A friendly, helpful, and service-oriented attitude is required at all times.

Hygiene, Safety and Housekeeping

The role requires strict adherence to clean-as-you-go procedures during production to minimise food safety risks.

Deep cleaning must be conducted post-production to avoid contamination and pest infestation.

Bakery equipment must be kept clean and maintained in good working condition.

All safety procedures must be followed when operating bakery equipment to avoid occupational risks.

Any equipment faults or abnormalities must be communicated immediately to the relevant manager.

Administrative and Operational Duties

Daily analysis of sales figures, customer orders, and wastage is required to support production planning.
