Core Duties & Responsibilities

Vetting Session Workers perform extensive, multi-layered investigative, administrative, and evaluative profiling tasks to protect state security frameworks:

Field Investigation & Background Auditing

  • Plan, structure, and prepare physical vetting files, background brief archives, and matching administrative profiles systematically.

  • Conduct in-depth documentary enquiries, cross-reference state records, and collect target verification details from diverse secondary registries.

  • Gather field information and conduct rigorous vetting investigations through structured personal interviews with subjects, references, neighbors, and professional associates.

Analytics, Report Writing & Administration

  • Synthesize complex findings and write detailed, objective reports based on documentary evidence and field interviews.

  • Compile and submit finalized background dossiers to the Director of Vetting Management on required vetting files and completed reports on a regular, deadline-driven schedule.

  • Capture data accurately, operate secure intelligence terminal infrastructure, and maintain digital confidentiality protocols.

  • Provide strategic inputs for the proactive development and implementation of progressive institutional policies, guidelines, operational norms, and standards in vetting investigations.

Minimum Appointment Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following educational, logistical, and skills criteria to pass initial human resource screening:

  • Basic Academic Base: Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or an equivalent recognized schooling profile.

  • Higher Education Certificate: A Diploma, Advanced Certificate, or National Diploma (NQF Level 6) specializing in the Faculty of Humanities (including Social Sciences, Psychology, Counselling, Field Investigation, Social Work, or Criminology) or closely related qualification profiles.

  • Practical Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience in Administration / Client Interaction OR 1 year of active experience in Field Investigation / Evaluation.

  • Logistical Transport: A valid South African driving license and ownership of a reliable personal vehicle are strictly essential for conducting field investigations.

  • Specialist Knowledge: Completion of a course or conceptual understanding of Vetting Fieldwork alongside a solid understanding of the public service legislative framework.

  • Core Competencies: Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, active listening, and objective reasoning ability. High proficiency in computer literacy, reporting protocols, and collaborative interpersonal relations.
