About the Role
As a Store Operations Controller at Ackermans, you will sit at the intersection of retail operations and commercial finance. Your core mission is to turn complex operational datasets into commercial clarity that enhances store-level profitability, labor efficiency, and operational execution.
This role requires a naturally inquisitive, commercially sharp individual who can challenge numbers, investigate operational variances, and collaborate directly with store and field operations teams. You will play a vital role in shaping shift-based store payroll models, setting store sales targets, driving controllable cost management, and automating operational support workflows across Ackermans’ extensive store network.
Key Performance Areas & Primary Responsibilities
1. Store Performance, Controls & Financial Insights

Analyze and track store turnover, operating expenditure, profit margins, controllable costs, and key operating metrics across regions and store clusters.

Investigate underlying financial and operational drivers behind store performance variances, identifying emerging risks and profit-enhancement opportunities.

Translate financial, sales, and operational metrics into strategic recommendations for retail executive decision-making.
2. Store-Level Sales Budgeting & Forecasting

Lead store-level sales budgeting, target setting, revenue forecasting, and monthly performance review frameworks.

Evaluate sales trends, trading patterns, seasonality, store revamps, store maturity profiles, and regional economic factors to build realistic store budgets.
3. Store Payroll, Headcount & Labor Productivity

Oversee shift-based store payroll models, labor planning, headcount allocation, worked hours, and overtime trends.

Analyze staff scheduling efficiency and labor productivity metrics to optimize store coverage relative to peak customer footfall patterns.
4. Business Partnering & Operational Support

Partner closely with regional operations leaders, field managers, and store operations stakeholders to improve store-level decision-making and cost discipline.

Provide clear financial guidance, analytical frameworks, and operational presentations to field management teams.
5. Continuous Improvement, Process Automation & Projects

Minimum Requirements – Ackermans Store Operations Controller
Educational Qualifications

Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (Essential).

B.Com Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, Operations, Retail Planning, or equivalent qualification (Essential).
