WHAT DOES A SPECIALISED CASE OFFICER DO?
A Specialised Case Officer is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of offender sentence plans, ensuring alignment with rehabilitation objectives and correctional policies. This role focuses on supporting offenders’ personal development while maintaining safety and security within the correctional facility.
The position requires strong analytical, interpersonal, and case management skills, along with the ability to work within a structured and highly regulated environment. The ideal candidate is professional, resilient, and committed to service delivery excellence in the public sector.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Sentence Plan Implementation
- Facilitate the implementation of individual offender sentence plans
- Ensure alignment with rehabilitation and reintegration goals
- Monitor progress and adjust plans where necessary
- Support structured offender development programmes
Offender Support & Development
- Provide guidance and support for personal development
- Promote positive behavioural change
- Engage offenders in rehabilitation activities
- Reinforce discipline and accountability
Monitoring & Reporting
- Compile and submit behavioural monitoring and evaluation reports
- Track offender progress and provide feedback to management structures
- Ensure accurate and timely record-keeping and documentation
- Support decision-making through data-driven insights
Security & Custody Management
- Provide safe custody services within the unit
- Maintain security protocols and procedures
- Ensure compliance with correctional standards
- Use security technology and firearm skills where required
Administration & Resource Management
- Register and refer offender complaints and requests
- Liaise with Case Management Committees (CMC) and relevant units
- Manage resources effectively
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and legislation
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
🎓 Educational Qualifications
- Matric / Grade 12 (essential)
- OR NQF Level 6 qualification in Behavioural Sciences
- Successful completion of Correctional Science Learnership / Basic Training
💼 Experience
- With Matric: Minimum 10 years’ experience at CB1 level
- With NQF Level 6 qualification: No experience required
💻 Technical Skills
- Basic computer literacy
- Ability to manage reports, records, and systems
📚 Knowledge Requirements
- Knowledge of the Correctional Services Act (Act 111 of 1998)
- Understanding of safety and security in correctional environments
- Familiarity with case management and rehabilitation processes
