About the Role
This is a multifaceted retail operations and customer service role that sits at the intersection of frontline customer engagement and store administration. As a Retail Store Assistant at Dis-Chem Bluecrane Ridge, you will not simply be serving customers — you will be helping to manage the operational heartbeat of the store, ensuring that everything from cash management and stock queries to deliveries, returns, and daily reconciliations runs smoothly, accurately, and in full compliance with company policy.
You will be the professional link between customers and the various departments within the store, ensuring that every query is handled with care and every operational process is executed to the standard Dis-Chem is known for. Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Communication
- Manage and report all customer compliments and complaints to management promptly and professionally.
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship with customers at all times, ensuring every interaction reflects Dis-Chem’s service standard.
- Ensure all customer stock queries are dealt with and resolved efficiently and to the customer’s satisfaction.
- Maintain effective external communication with customers when feedback or follow-up is required.
- Assist customers with any enquiries and refer them to the appropriate departments where applicable.
- Adhere to the customer turnover per hour rate as per company benchmark, ensuring frontline efficiency is maintained throughout the trading day.
Cash Management & Point of Sale Administration
- Manage the shorts and overs at point of sale, including the management of floats, to ensure accurate cash accountability at all times.
- Manage all refund and return transactions in accordance with Dis-Chem’s policies and procedures.
- Ensure that back shopping and returned goods are handled correctly and processed in line with store SOPs.
- Prepare the run reconciliation on a daily basis, ensuring that all cash movements are accurately accounted for and reported.
- Prepare, order, and receive branch change requirements to ensure cashiers have sufficient change available to maintain the best possible customer service levels throughout the day.
- Maintain effective document control including but not limited to float, petty cash, and cash on hand.
Stock, Deliveries & Inventory Management
- Verify and review deliveries and invoices for total accuracy upon receipt, ensuring no discrepancies are left unaddressed.
- Assist the Receiving Manager in preparing and logging Distribution Centre claims on the DC claims system.
- Manage and control high-risk stock in line with Dis-Chem’s security and stock management protocols.
Operational & Administrative Support
- Maintain effective liaison between all relevant parties — including store management, departments, and external stakeholders — to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Support the overall management of the store by ensuring all operational and administrative duties are performed to Dis-Chem’s required standard consistently and without exception.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 / Matric — essential.
Experience & Technical Skills
- Retail experience — essential; demonstrated experience in a retail operations or customer service environment.
- Basic computer skills — proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; SAP experience required.
