As a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant, you will play a critical operational role in managing patient medicine-related needs safely, legally, and efficiently under the direct supervision of a Responsible Pharmacist.

You will accurately interpret and capture electronic prescriptions, perform non-sterile compounding and repackaging, manage medical aid claims and rejections, and handle stock receipts following First-Expired, First-Out (FEFO) principles. Key Responsibilities

Prescription Processing & Dispensing Support

  • Assist with reading, interpreting, and capturing prescription details accurately into the Unisolv system.

  • Pick, pack, label, and prepare Schedule 1 through Schedule 5 medicines and scheduled substances.

  • Verify patient details and ensure every prepared prescription is checked and signed off by a qualified Pharmacist before issue.

  • Provide clear, concise usage instructions, dosage guides, and health advice to patients at the dispensary counter.

  • Assist with the compounding, manipulation, and repackaging of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Medical Aid Claims & Customer Service

  • Process electronic script submissions to medical aid schemes and resolve script rejections or authorization errors promptly.

  • Obtain chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorizations from schemes on behalf of clients.

  • Maintain and update customer profiles centrally on Unisolv and UCS systems.

  • Explain medicine costs, co-payments, and generic alternatives clearly and courteously to patients.

Inventory, Receiving & Asset Control

  • Assist with stock control, order placement up to Schedule 6, and receiving of dispensary stock in accordance with Dis-Chem SOPs.

  • Merchandise incoming stock using First-Expired, First-Out (FEFO) guidelines to minimize loss and expired stock.

  • Monitor dispensary stock levels, identify low or out-of-stock items, and report inventory discrepancies to the Dispensary Manager.

  • Participate actively in bi-annual stock counts and maintain strict cash and asset controls.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualifications & Statutory Accreditation

  • Grade 12 Certificate (Matric) — essential baseline requirement

  • Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant Qualification — essential

  • Active, unendorsed Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) — mandatory requirement

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Practical experience operating the Unisolv pharmacy dispensing system — essential

  • Computer literacy in MS Office Suite

  • Sound numerical skills and accurate data entry capabilities

  • Experience in SAP, E-Scripting, and FMCG/Retail operations is highly advantageous

  • Knowledge of family planning, complementary medicine, and OTC drugs is advantageous

Language & General Requirements

  • Strong command of English (read, write, speak) plus fluency in a second South African language (a 3rd language is advantageous).
