Frequently Asked Questions – Office Administrator CFO Jobs Pretoria 2026

What makes this post different from other Office Administrator posts in the Department of Labour? Most Office Administrator posts in the Department of Employment and Labour are based at Labour Centres or Provincial Offices and support operational management functions. This post is specifically the Office Administrator to the Chief Financial Officer of the Compensation Fund — a public entity CFO — placing you in direct daily contact with the most senior financial governance officer in the Fund. The financial sensitivity and governance complexity of the CFO environment is significantly higher than a standard Labour Centre or Provincial Office administrator role, and the career exposure is correspondingly more valuable for candidates who want to progress into senior public entity administration.

Do I need a financial qualification to support the CFO? No — the qualifying qualifications for this post are in Office Management, Information Management, Public Administration, and Business Administration — not accounting or finance. The Office Administrator supports the CFO with diary management, secretariat services, logistics, records management, and project tracking — not with financial analysis or reporting. However, working in the CFO’s office will expose you to budget monitoring, supply chain compliance, and PFMA-governed financial administration as a support function, building valuable financial governance knowledge without requiring a formal finance qualification.

What is the Compensation Fund and how is it different from the UIF? The Compensation Fund compensates workers who are injured on duty or who contract occupational diseases through the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA). The UIF (Unemployment Insurance Fund) provides benefits to workers who become unemployed, ill, or go on maternity leave. Both are funds administered by the Department of Employment and Labour but they serve different purposes and are governed by different legislation — COIDA for the Compensation Fund and the UIA/UICA for the UIF. The CFO of the Compensation Fund is responsible for the financial management and reporting of the COIDA fund specifically.

What does “render secretariat service for the office of the CFO” mean in practice? Rendering secretariat services means preparing meeting agendas, attending meetings in the CFO’s office (including CFO management meetings, audit committee meetings, and budget review meetings), taking accurate minutes of proceedings, distributing draft minutes for confirmation, tracking all action items arising from meetings, and following up with responsible persons to ensure actions are completed before the next meeting. In a CFO environment this includes meetings with internal audit, external auditors, the Auditor-General, Treasury, and the Board of the Compensation Fund — making accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism in the secretariat function particularly important.

Is this post only available by email or can I hand deliver? This post specifies email only as the application method — directing applications to Jobs-CF12@labour.gov.za. Unlike most Department of Employment and Labour posts in this series which offer both postal/hand delivery and email options, this Compensation Fund post accepts applications by email only. Ensure your application email clearly quotes reference number HR 5/1/2/3/14 in the subject line and body of the email.

What EE groups are encouraged to apply and can African candidates also apply? The EE note encourages Coloured, Indian, White, and Persons with Disabilities to apply — indicating that the Compensation Fund is seeking to improve representation of these groups in this post. African candidates are not explicitly excluded and may apply — however, the EE preference during the appointment process will be given to candidates from the groups listed in the EE note.
