About the Role

The Fidelity Fire Solutions operational unit in Spartan, Johannesburg, acts as a rapid-response emergency arm dedicated to safeguarding industrial, commercial, and residential client properties across Gauteng. As a Junior Fire Fighter, you will carry out frontline firefighting activities, hazardous material containment, and emergency rescue operations under the guidance, mentorship, and supervision of senior firefighters and officers-in-charge.

This role balances intense emergency response duties with proactive risk management. Beyond responding to active incidents, you will participate in physical fitness regimes, perform basic maintenance on vehicles and breathing apparatus, conduct health and safety inspections, and assist in delivering fire safety training to client personnel. The successful candidate must combine technical emergency knowledge with emotional composure, administrative discipline, and excellent physical fitness.

Key Responsibilities

Emergency Response & Firefighting Operations

  • Respond swiftly to fires, vehicle entrapments, structural rescues, and non-emergency humanitarian incidents under senior command.

  • Contain and mitigate incidents involving hazardous chemical substances (Hazmat) following established safety protocols.

  • Extricate and release casualties safely, operating mobile and fixed breathing apparatus and specialized hydraulic or manual tools.

  • Administer emergency first aid, resuscitation, and basic medical treatment to injured persons on scene as directed.

  • Operate a broad range of pumping equipment, hose lines, and extinguishing agents to manage and douse fires effectively.

Equipment Readiness & Maintenance

  • Conduct daily checks, cleaning, testing, and basic maintenance on firefighting vehicles, tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Maintain breathing apparatus and specialized gear to ensure immediate operational readiness for emergency turnouts.

  • Record incident details, call-out times, and operational logs accurately using computerized logging systems.

Prevention, Inspection & Training Support

  • Assist supervisors in conducting health and safety inspections to identify potential fire hazards on client sites.

  • Participate in regular fire drills, simulation exercises, and mandatory physical fitness conditioning.

  • Help train relevant client personnel and staff in foundational fire safety theory and practical extinguisher usage.

  • Recommend corrective actions and advise clients on preventive measures to minimize fire risks.

Minimum Requirements

Educational & Technical Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Certificate (Matric) — essential baseline requirement

  • IFSAC Accredited — essential

  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter 2 Certification — essential

  • Firefighter II Certification — essential

  • EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification, First Aid Levels 1 to 3, or Basic Ambulance Attendant (BAA) — highly advantageous
