About the Role
As a Mechanical Fitter at Tiger Brands Roodekop, you will play a critical role in ensuring continuous plant availability, operational safety, and mechanical reliability across high-speed manufacturing, packaging, and utility lines.
Your primary focus involves executing scheduled preventative maintenance tasks, inspecting equipment to catch potential failures early, responding swiftly to mechanical breakdowns, diagnosing root causes, and implementing equipment upgrades to optimize performance.

Preventative & Breakdown Maintenance

Execute planned preventative maintenance schedules on production, high-speed packaging lines, and plant utilities.

Inspect machinery routinely to detect wear, misalignment, or mechanical defects before equipment failures occur.

Diagnose mechanical faults swiftly during unplanned line stoppages to minimize production downtime.

Use advanced diagnostic techniques to determine root cause failures and implement permanent engineering solutions.
Installation, Upgrades & Plant Reliability

Install, align, test, and commission new manufacturing machinery and mechanical equipment.

Assist with line start-up activities and verify that machinery operates within technical design specifications.

Modify, rebuild, or upgrade existing machinery to improve overall plant efficiency, throughput, safety, and equipment reliability.
Safety, Quality & Workshop Compliance

Comply strictly with Tiger Brands engineering standards, Occupational Health and Safety (OHSA) guidelines, and site safety procedures.

Participate actively in risk assessments, safety inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Minimum Requirements – Mechanical Fitter
Qualifications & Technical Accreditations

N4 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Essential).

Red Seal Trade Certificate as a Fitter, Fitter & Turner, Millwright, or equivalent recognized qualification (Essential).
Work Experience & Technical Competencies

Proven post-apprenticeship experience as a Fitter or Mechanical Artisan within an industrial manufacturing environment (Essential).

Solid understanding of high-speed packaging machinery, conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, and pneumatic systems (Essential).
