About the Role

The Credit Controller position plays a direct financial management role within the bakery unit, safeguarding company cash flow, minimizing bad debt exposure, and building strong relationships with key commercial accounts. Operating onsite in Pretoria, the successful candidate will perform credit risk evaluations, coordinate trade spend provisions, oversee GL journal entries, and collaborate with internal/external auditors as well as credit assurance providers.

This high-impact financial role demands a candidate with a solid FMCG accounting background, strong reconciliation skills, and strict adherence to standard operating procedures (BMR SOPs).

Important Operational Requirements: Candidates must possess a National Diploma in Credit Management and 3 to 5 years of proven experience within an FMCG environment. Practical experience with General Ledger maintenance, trade spend deduction reviews, and credit risk assurance procedures is essential.

Credit Risk Mitigation & Compliance

• Conduct detailed account evaluations in accordance with company credit policies to minimize risk exposure.

• Implement and maintain strict compliance with Bakeries Business Management Rules (BMR SOPs).

• Engage with National Office and credit assurance companies to insure credit risk portfolio.

• Coordinate internal and external audit processes, providing required documentation timeously.

Trade Spend & Deduction Management

• Review weekly customer promotional activities to ensure all promotions (sallies and tallies) are adequately provided for.

• Evaluate monthly trade spend claim deductions for accuracy, resolving variances before approving payments.

General Ledger (GL) & Journal Entries

• Assist with month-end General Ledger reconciliations, verifying the accuracy and completeness of posted entries.

• Review GL balances to confirm proper transaction posting.

• Prepare manual journal entries under the guidance of the divisional accountant, ensuring full compliance with policy.

Debt Collection, Reporting & Legal Recovery

• Analyze aging reports and aggressively follow up on delinquent accounts to reduce bad debt exposure.

• Prepare regular status reports covering outstanding debts, cash flow, and overall credit performance metrics.

• Identify negative payment trends and initiate legal recovery procedures via National Office when required.

• Maintain fluid, professional communication with internal and external customer stakeholders.

Educational Qualifications

• National Diploma in Credit Management (or equivalent accredited financial qualification).

Experience & Sector Knowledge

• 3 to 5 years of experience in credit control, debt recovery, or financial accounting within an FMCG environment.

• Proven track record in trade spend management, promotional claim reconciliation, and GL maintenance.
