Key Responsibilities of a Casual Merchandiser
Stock Replenishment & Merchandising
- Restock merchandise to ensure maximum product availability.
- Ensure stock is packed and stored correctly in designated areas.
- Maintain full product ranges on shelves at all times.
- Build and maintain merchandising displays according to company standards.
- Rotate stock regularly using FIFO procedures.
Stock Control & Store Maintenance
- Monitor shelf stock for expired or damaged products.
- Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, and damaged stock.
- Assist with stock counting and stocktaking activities.
- Ensure products are correctly labelled and priced.
- Flatten boxes and maintain organised stock areas.
Customer Service & Product Assistance
- Provide friendly and professional customer assistance.
- Assist customers with stock and product-related queries.
- Follow up on customer out-of-stock requests.
- Support positive customer experiences throughout the store.
- Maintain professional presentation and appearance standards.
Operational Compliance & Safety
- Follow Dis-Chem merchandising standards and SOPs.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations at all times.
- Ensure merchandise is handled carefully to minimise losses.
- Report suspicious behaviour relating to staff or customers.
- Maintain cleanliness and daily physical upkeep of displays.
Teamwork & Store Support
- Assist with loading and off-loading stock.
- Support back shopping and stock organisation.
- Assist with training new employees where required.
- Communicate effectively with management and team members.
- Maintain strong teamwork within retail operations.
Minimum Requirements – Casual Merchandiser
Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (essential)
Experience:
- Up to 6 months retail experience (essential)
- Minimum 1 year retail experience advantageous
- FMCG retail experience advantageous
Licences:
- No licence specified
- Reliable transport advantageous
Technical Skills:
- Computer literacy in MS Office
- Basic retail stock control understanding
- Ability to analyse ZMORE reports advantageous
