Within Tsebo Facilities Solutions at the Rustenburg site, the Carpenter is a skilled trades professional responsible for maintaining the physical integrity and presentation of the facility through high-quality carpentry work and general building maintenance. From doors, cabinetry, and wooden floors to ceilings, painting, and locking mechanisms, you will deliver both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repair work to ensure the site remains in excellent condition at all times.

This is a role for an experienced, trade-tested carpenter who brings a minimum of 3 years of practical carpentry and maintenance experience, supplemented by general handyman skills across basic plumbing, building, and metalwork. The ideal candidate is self-managed, professionally presented, service-oriented, and comfortable operating independently within the structured compliance environment that Tsebo’s client contracts demand. Full adherence to OHS regulations and Tsebo Facilities Solutions’ SHEQ standards is a non-negotiable requirement of the role.

Key Responsibilities

🪚 Carpentry Repairs & Installations

  • Perform a full range of carpentry work including the repair, replacement, and installation of doors, cabinetry, skirting boards, window frames, and wooden flooring.
  • Ensure all carpentry work is completed to the required quality standard, using the correct materials, tools, and techniques for each application.
  • Carry out furniture and fixture repairs as required, restoring items to a safe, functional, and presentable condition.
  • Assess the extent and nature of carpentry defects on site and recommend appropriate repair or replacement solutions to the facilities supervisor.
  • Ensure all completed carpentry work complies with applicable building standards and client site requirements.

🔨 General Building Maintenance

  • Carry out general building maintenance tasks including ceiling repairs, painting, minor structural repairs, and the servicing and replacement of locking mechanisms.
  • Respond to a broad range of multi-disciplinary maintenance requests, drawing on general handyman skills across basic plumbing, building work, and metalwork as required.
  • Identify and report any structural defects, safety hazards, or maintenance requirements observed during the course of daily work.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities are completed within the agreed timeframe and to the required quality standard before signing off on job cards.

📋 Planned Preventative Maintenance & Reactive Calls

  • Execute Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks in accordance with the site maintenance schedule, ensuring all planned work is completed on time and documented correctly.
  • Respond promptly to reactive maintenance calls, prioritising safety-critical and client-impacting defects for immediate attention.
  • Complete and submit job cards accurately for every task carried out, capturing all relevant details including fault description, materials used, time taken, and completion status.
  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness of open, pending, and completed maintenance tasks to support effective workload management and supervisory oversight.

🛠️ Tools, Equipment & Work Area Management

  • Maintain all carpentry tools and equipment in good working order, ensuring they are clean, correctly stored, and fit for purpose at all times.
  • Keep all work areas clean and tidy throughout and after each task, ensuring no hazards are left unaddressed and the site is presentable at all times.
  • Conduct regular checks on tool and equipment condition, reporting any damage or deficiencies to the supervisor without delay.
  • Ensure the correct tools and materials are used for each application in accordance with manufacturer specifications and best practice.

OHS & SHEQ Compliance

  • Carry out all work in full compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Adhere at all times to Tsebo Facilities Solutions’ SHEQ standards, ensuring every task is performed safely, responsibly, and in accordance with the company’s quality and environmental frameworks.
  • Report any safety incidents, near-misses, or non-compliance observations through the correct reporting channels without delay.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric — minimum requirement.
  • Carpentry Trade Test — required; candidates without a valid Trade Test certificate are unlikely to be shortlisted.
  • Any additional qualification in building maintenance, construction, or facilities management will be advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a carpentry and/or building maintenance role — essential.
  • Demonstrable experience in planned preventative maintenance and reactive repair environments.
  • Prior experience working within a facilities management or contract maintenance environment will be a strong advantage.

Licences
