About the Role

AFGRI Equipment is the authorised dealer for John Deere agricultural machinery across a significant portion of South Africa, serving the farming community with tractors, combines, harvesters, and a broad range of implements and attachments. The Thabazimbi area is an active agricultural region, and the Marketer plays a frontline role in developing and maintaining relationships with farmers, identifying their equipment needs, and guiding them through the full sales process from initial contact to successful conclusion.

In this field-based role, you will spend a significant portion of your time visiting farmers on their properties, conducting equipment demonstrations, attending agricultural shows and farmer days, and actively building a strong network within the local farming community. You will market and sell the full John Deere and AFGRI equipment range, manage stock and procurement activities relevant to your territory, and maintain accurate reporting and administrative records in line with AFGRI’s requirements.

The ideal candidate brings 3 years of sales and marketing experience specifically with John Deere equipment, a solid understanding of the agricultural sector, and the interpersonal skills to build trust with farmers operating in a demanding, high-value purchasing environment. Afrikaans speaking ability is essential for this role, given the language profile of the Thabazimbi farming community. A valid driver’s licence and a willingness to travel extensively across the territory are non-negotiable requirements.

Please note: 3 years of business, sales, and marketing experience with John Deere equipment is a minimum requirement for this role. Candidates without John Deere-specific experience are unlikely to be shortlisted. Afrikaans speaking ability is also essential.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Sales of Agricultural Equipment

  • Prepare thoroughly for each demonstration, ensuring the relevant equipment is correctly configured, clean, and operationally ready before the customer engagement.
  • Use demonstrations as an opportunity to address customer concerns, highlight competitive advantages, and build the customer’s confidence in the product and the brand.
  • Follow up promptly after every demonstration to maintain momentum in the sales process and move prospects towards a purchasing decision.

Shows, Agricultural Days & Community Engagement

  • Represent AFGRI Equipment at agricultural shows, farmer days, and industry events within the territory, actively engaging with farmers and prospects to build brand awareness and generate leads.

Core Values

Agricultural Passion & Credibility

AFGRI’s farmers expect to be served by someone who understands their world. The Marketer based in Thabazimbi must bring genuine knowledge of and respect for the agricultural sector — understanding the pressures farmers face, the seasonal rhythms that drive their purchasing decisions, and the critical role that reliable, high-performance equipment plays in their livelihoods. Credibility in the field is earned through knowledge and respect, not just sales technique.

Relationship-Driven Sales

In agricultural equipment sales, the relationship comes before the transaction. Farmers buy from people they trust, and trust is built over time through consistent, honest, and knowledgeable engagement. The Marketer at AFGRI Thabazimbi is expected to invest in long-term customer relationships — being present, being helpful, and being the first call a farmer makes when they need equipment advice or support.

Commercial Excellence

Relationships without results are not sustainable. AFGRI expects its Marketers to be commercially sharp — understanding margins, managing a healthy pipeline, negotiating effectively, and consistently converting prospects into customers. The ability to close deals is as important as the ability to open conversations, and the best AFGRI Marketers do both with equal confidence.

Integrity in Every Transaction

Agricultural equipment transactions involve significant financial commitments from farmers. AFGRI’s reputation — and the Marketer’s personal credibility — depends on honest, transparent conduct in every deal. This means accurately representing product capabilities, managing customer expectations honestly, and never overpromising on delivery or performance. Integrity is not just a company value here; it is a commercial necessity.

Continuous Learning & Market Awareness

The agricultural equipment market evolves constantly — new John Deere models, changing farming practices, shifting economic conditions, and evolving competitor offerings all require the Marketer to stay informed and adaptable. AFGRI supports its people in building deep product and market knowledge, and expects its Marketers to take personal ownership of their ongoing professional development.

Career Growth Opportunities

AFGRI Group offers meaningful career progression for high-performing equipment marketers within its national network:

  • Marketer → Senior Marketer / Key Account Manager
  • Senior Marketer → Sales Supervisor / Territory Manager
  • Territory Manager → Branch Manager / Regional Sales Manager
  • Regional Sales Manager → National Sales Manager / Equipment Division Director

Your career path is in your hands.
