What Does an Administrative Clerk Do at the NPA?

Administrative Clerks at the NPA’s Welkom office provide high-level administrative support to the Senior Prosecutor and/or District Court Control Prosecutor. In this role, you will design and maintain an organised administrative system, execute a wide variety of administrative tasks, draft correspondence, liaise across departments, provide logistical and HR support to legal staff, and handle all general office administration including mail, filing, photocopying, and document dispatching.

This is a structured, professional, legal office administration role that requires a Grade 12 certificate, strong MS Office proficiency, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently with credibility and accountability in a justice sector environment.


Key Responsibilities of an Administrative Clerk

Office & Administrative System Management

  • Provide high-level administrative support to the office of the Senior Prosecutor / District Court Control Prosecutor.
  • Design and maintain a well-organised administrative system for the office.
  • Execute a wide variety of administrative tasks as required by the office.

Correspondence & Communication

  • Draft correspondence to members of the public, other organisations, and State departments.
  • Liaise with administration on all matters pertaining to the administrative functioning of the office.
  • Ensure all correspondence is professionally written, accurately formatted, and dispatched timeously.

Legal & Support Staff Administration

  • Provide administrative support to legal staff pertaining to finance, logistical, and human resources matters.
  • Assist with the preparation and management of documents required by the prosecutorial team.

General Office Administration

  • Deliver mail and faxes within the office.
  • Render general administrative support including filing, photocopying, faxing, receiving, and dispatching documents.
  • Maintain organised document administration systems and ensure records are accurately filed and accessible.

Minimum Requirements – Administrative Clerk

Educational Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification — essential
