About the Role

As a Driver / Messenger within the Directorate of Animal Health, you will perform vital operational transport and administrative logistical support for the departmental headquarters in Pretoria.
You will be responsible for transporting personnel, delivering sensitive government documentation, collecting inter-departmental mail, maintaining logbooks, executing pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, and assisting the Registry unit with filing, copying, and file tracking.

Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties

1. Driving & Passenger / Mail Transport
  • Drive light and medium motor vehicles safely to transport departmental staff, visitors, and official passengers.
  • Collect and deliver official mail, correspondence, packages, equipment, and sensitive documents between departmental branches and external stakeholders across Pretoria.
  • Ensure maximum security and confidential handling over the movement of official files and documents.
2. Vehicle Maintenance & Fleet Management
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to verify oil, water, tire pressure, and mechanical safety.
  • Keep the assigned official vehicle clean, roadworthy, and in optimal operational condition at all times.
  • Report mechanical defects, service deadlines, accidents, or damage to fleet managers immediately.
  • Complete all prescribed vehicle records, trip sheets, and official logbooks accurately (recording starting/ending mileage, fuel receipts, and trip destinations).
3. Registry & Administrative Support
  • Assist the Registry office in sorting, indexing, and filing incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Trace lost files, pull records for departmental officials, and manage file movements.
  • Perform office administrative tasks including photocopying, scanning, and faxing documentation as required.

Minimum Requirements – Driver / Messenger

Qualifications & Driver’s License
  • Grade 10 or ABET Qualification (Essential).
  • Valid Code 8 (Code B or C1) Driver’s License (Essential).
  • Minimum of 7 months of relevant driving, delivery, or messenger experience in a structured workplace (Essential).
