As a Retail Shop Assistant, you will act as the frontline representative of the Adendorff brand. You will engage directly with customers entering the store, understand their project or technical requirements, and recommend the appropriate machinery, power tools, or hardware equipment. Additionally, you will play an active operational role in maintaining attractive store merchandising, executing periodic stock counts, monitoring inventory levels, and upholding general retail branch procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Technical Sales Support

• Welcome customers warmly and deliver a professional, knowledgeable, and helpful shopping experience.

• Consult with clients to understand their specific technical requirements and recommend appropriate DIY tools, power equipment, or heavy machinery.

• Demonstrate product features, highlight safety guidelines, and address customer questions accurately.

• Assist in resolving customer queries politely or escalating complex technical issues to senior store management.

Merchandising & Store Presentation

• Maintain neat, well-stocked, and organized sales floor displays according to Adendorff merchandising standards.

• Unpack incoming inventory, verify stock items against delivery documentation, and place goods in designated shelf or floor locations.

• Ensure all tools, machinery, and accessories carry correct, visible price labels and product descriptions.

• Keep the store, floor displays, and customer counter areas clean, orderly, and safe at all times.

Stock Control & Retail Branch Procedures

• Participate actively in regular stocktakes, cycle counts, and inventory audits to maintain stock accuracy.

• Monitor shelf stock levels, identify fast-moving or low-stock items, and inform store management to initiate replenishment.

• Handle tools and heavy equipment carefully during unpacking and display to prevent damage, loss, or store shrinkage.

• Follow established retail operating procedures, cash-handling protocols, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualifications & Preferred Experience

• Senior Certificate (Matric / Grade 12) — essential baseline requirement

• Previous work experience in a Retail Sales environment — strongly preferred

• Practical exposure to Merchandising, Stock Taking, Stock Control, and General Retail Procedures — highly advantageous

• Technical knowledge or familiarity with DIY tools, power tools, hardware, or industrial machinery — absolute added advantage
