As a Retail Shop Assistant, you will be the frontline ambassador of Adendorff Machinery Mart. You will engage directly with clients on the sales floor, help them identify the right machinery or tools for their projects, and provide helpful advice. Beyond technical sales support, you will take an active operational role in shelf merchandising, regular stock counts, inventory control, and general retail branch administration.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Technical Sales Support

• Welcome customers warmly and deliver a professional, informative, and engaging sales experience.

• Consult with clients to understand their project requirements and recommend appropriate power tools, hardware, or industrial machinery.

• Demonstrate product features, communicate safe operating procedures, and answer technical product queries accurately.

• Assist in resolving customer inquiries promptly or escalate complex technical issues to store management.

Merchandising & Store Presentation

• Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked product displays according to Adendorff merchandising standards.

• Unpack incoming store inventory, verify items against delivery slips, and stock goods in designated sales areas.

• Ensure all tools, equipment, and accessories carry clear, accurate price labels and descriptions.

• Keep customer counters, walkways, and display areas clean, orderly, and safe.

Stock Control & Retail Branch Procedures

• Participate actively in regular stocktakes, cycle counts, and inventory audits to maintain accurate system records.

• Monitor sales floor stock levels, identify low-stock items, and inform store management to initiate restocking.

• Handle heavy tools and machinery with care during unpacking and floor placement to prevent damage or loss.

• Follow established retail operating standards, cash-handling protocols, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualifications & Preferred Experience

• Senior Certificate (Matric / Grade 12) — essential baseline requirement

• Previous exposure within a Retail Sales environment — strongly preferred

• Practical experience in Merchandising, Stock Taking, Stock Control, and Customer Service — highly advantageous

• Technical knowledge or practical familiarity with DIY tools, power tools, hardware, or machinery — absolute added advantage
