As a Casual Cashier at the Northridge Mall branch in Bloemfontein, you occupy a vital operational position — serving as the final point of contact for thousands of shoppers daily. This is a dynamic, high-volume frontline role. You will be responsible for recording customer transactions accurately on the Dis-Chem operating system, handling various forms of payment securely, and capturing integrated partner loyalty programs. Beyond standard till operations, you will actively implement Dis-Chem’s signature 5-star communication principles, manage cash flow protocols, and resolve basic customer merchandise queries on the spot.

The ideal candidate brings proven operational experience handling cash registers, an presentable appearance, high emotional intelligence, and the self-discipline to maintain confidentiality regarding daily store takings. Key Responsibilities

Point-of-Sale Transactions & Payments

• Record customer transactions accurately on the specialized Dis-Chem point-of-sale operating system according to corporate policies and procedures.

• Transact all retail purchases by receiving and processing payments via cash, credit/debit bank cards, digital vouchers, and promotional coupons.

• Process all loyalty cards seamlessly, including accelerator rewards programs such as Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks.

• Ensure all outgoing stock, items, and medical scripts are scanned completely and paid for before they leave the front gate area.

• Secure supervisor approval and sign-offs for all line voids, transaction cancellations, and product price changes at the terminal.

Cash Flow & Security Management

• Maintain total responsibility for cash flow within your assigned drawer, ensuring all cash is kept safely and securely inside the till at all times.

• Execute secure cash drops into the designated store drop safe in strict accordance with Dis-Chem’s financial standard operating procedures.

• Handle all daily cash takings with absolute confidentiality, ensuring financial performance data is only discussed directly with senior store management.

• Be highly alert, recognize, and report any suspicious behaviors, potential fraud risks, or security anomalies immediately to the frontline supervisor.

Customer Service & Communication

• Adhere fully to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies, establishing a professional, warm, and welcoming relationship with all shoppers.

• Carry out and manage Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles during every transaction, ensuring a world-class shopping experience.

• Report all customer complaints and compliments constructively to the Frontline Supervisor or general store management team.

• Maintain the required customer turnover hourly rate, ensuring queues are managed efficiently without compromising processing accuracy.

• Stay fully aware of current store sales, active promotions, and marketing drives to accurately answer customer queries regarding merchandise.

• Exchange merchandise for customers and accept returned goods in accordance with return policies when authorized by management.

Educational Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate or recognized equivalent secondary qualification.

Experience

• A minimum of 6 months of continuous, verified experience operating cash registers or working in retail till operations.

Technical & Numerical Skills
