Core Values We Look For in a Household Aid
✅ Hygiene Standards & Infection Control
In a psychiatric hospital environment, maintaining impeccable hygiene is a direct patient safety responsibility. We value household aids who approach every cleaning task — from mopping floors to handling linen — with a thorough understanding of Infection Control principles, ensuring that every area under their care is clean, safe, and free of infection risk at all times.
✅ Physical Stamina & Reliability
This role involves sustained physical activity throughout every shift — lifting heavy equipment, scrubbing, mopping, and moving between areas of the hospital. We value candidates who bring consistent physical stamina, show up reliably for every shift including weekends and public holidays, and maintain their performance standards regardless of the demands of the working day.
✅ Care & Patient Dignity
Serving meals to patients and working in close proximity to vulnerable individuals requires a compassionate, respectful, and dignified approach. We value household aids who understand that their role extends beyond physical cleaning — that the way they interact with patients and conduct themselves in care areas contributes directly to the patient experience at Valkenberg Hospital.
✅ Safety Consciousness & OHSA Compliance
Handling cleaning chemicals, operating heavy cleaning equipment, and maintaining a hazard-free environment all require a candidate who takes safety seriously. We value household aids who apply their knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety consistently — using cleaning materials correctly, storing equipment safely, and reporting hazards without delay.
✅ Team Support & Supervisory Responsiveness
Hospital support services operate as a team, and every household aid plays a vital part in that team’s effectiveness. We value candidates who support their supervisor and colleagues willingly, communicate openly about challenges or shortages, and contribute to a cooperative, well-coordinated working environment across all shifts.
