About the Role

Fedics is one of South Africa’s most respected catering and hospitality services providers, operating within the broader Tsebo Solutions Group ecosystem. In the Healthwise division, Fedics delivers catering and patient meal services within hospital and healthcare environments — where food is not simply a meal, but a meaningful part of the patient recovery experience.

As a Ward Hostess, you will be stationed within a hospital ward environment, serving as the face of the catering team to patients, their families, and clinical staff. Your primary responsibility is to ensure that every patient receives the correct meal as per doctor and patient instructions, that dietary requirements are strictly adhered to, and that every meal service interaction is conducted with courtesy, care, and professionalism. Beyond meal delivery, you will support tea service, maintain water carafes, assist with basic food preparation, and uphold the highest standards of hygiene and customer service at all times.

This role is physically demanding — requiring the stamina to work 45 to 50 hours per week, the ability to stand, bend, and lift throughout your shift, and a commitment to operating safely and efficiently in a live healthcare environment. The ideal candidate is honest, reliable, methodical, and genuinely motivated by the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of patients during a vulnerable time.

⚠️ Please note: This role operates within a hospital and healthcare environment. Candidates must be free from skin allergies to foods and detergents, maintain exemplary personal hygiene standards at all times, and be fully comfortable working within a clinically regulated food service setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver meals to patients promptly and courteously, ensuring portion accuracy and presentation standards are consistently maintained.
  • Monitor and respond to any changes in patient dietary instructions communicated by nursing or clinical staff throughout the day.
  • Ensure all meal service activities comply fully with company and hospital standards and procedures.

🫖 Beverage & Hydration Service

  • Support the kitchen and catering team with preparation tasks as directed by the catering supervisor, ensuring timelines are met.
  • Adhere strictly to food safety and hygiene protocols during all preparation activities.
  • Ensure all prepared items meet the required quality, portion, and presentation standards before being served to patients.

🏥 Healthcare & Food Safety Standards

  • Maintain full compliance with all applicable company, hospital, and food safety standards and procedures at all times.
  • Ensure that quality standards across customer service, operating processes, health and safety, and food preparation are consistently met.
  • Operate at all times in a manner that supports a safe, hygienic, and infection-controlled ward environment.
  • Report any food safety concerns, hygiene issues, or incidents to the catering supervisor immediately and without exception.

💬 Patient Relations & Customer Service

  • Be courteous, patient, and helpful to all patients at all times, recognising that many are in a vulnerable state and deserve dignity and care.
