What Does a Client Service Officer: Assessor Do?

Client Service Officers at UIF satellite offices are the frontline point of contact for unemployed and vulnerable clients accessing UIF benefits. In this role, you will screen clients, process UIF benefit applications, register payment continuation forms, and provide general administrative support — ensuring that every client receives professional, efficient, and dignified service in line with the Batho Pele Principles.

This is a client-facing, process-driven entry-level government role that requires a Grade 12 certificate, no prior experience, and a thorough knowledge of the Unemployment Insurance Act, UIA Contributions Act, and related public service legislation.


Key Responsibilities of a Client Service Officer: Assessor

UIF Client Screening

  • Provide screening services to clients visiting the satellite office to determine eligibility for UIF benefits.
  • Interview clients professionally, gather required information, and direct them to the correct process or benefit type.
  • Apply knowledge of the Unemployment Insurance Act and Regulations to assess client situations accurately.

UIF Benefits Processing

  • Process applications for UIF benefits including unemployment, illness, maternity, adoption, and dependant benefits.
  • Capture client and application information accurately on the UIF operational systems.
  • Ensure all applications are complete, correctly documented, and submitted within required timeframes.

Payment Continuation Forms

  • Register and process payment continuation forms for clients who are continuing to receive UIF benefits.
  • Ensure continuation forms are captured correctly and clients are kept informed of their benefit status.

Administrative Functions

  • Provide general administrative support to the satellite office operations.
  • Maintain accurate client records in accordance with POPIA and departmental policies.
  • Comply with all Treasury Regulations, PFMA requirements, and UIF policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements – Client Service Officer: Assessor

Educational Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate — essential
