Purpose of the Job
The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for performing maintenance, servicing, diagnostics, and repairs on commercial vehicles according to job card instructions and manufacturer specifications. The role ensures that all vehicles are repaired to a roadworthy and operationally safe standard.
Key Responsibilities of a Diesel Mechanic
Vehicle Inspection & Diagnostics
- Perform visual inspections and onboard diagnostics
- Identify faults, irregularities, and wear and tear
- Evaluate vehicle condition against production standards
- Conduct pre-diagnosis checks before repairs
Repairs & Maintenance Work
- Carry out maintenance services as per manufacturer specifications
- Perform engine repairs, adjustments, and calibration work
- Replace worn or damaged components with new or reconditioned parts
- Ensure all work follows maintenance schedules and job cards
Job Card & Workshop Administration
- Receive and review job cards for accuracy
- Ensure all work performed is correctly recorded and signed off
- Book all parts used to the correct job card
- Ensure flat-rate repair compliance is maintained
Quality Control & Final Testing
- Conduct final vehicle inspections after repairs
- Use diagnostic and measuring equipment to verify repairs

Parts Handling & Inventory Control
- Return old or unusable parts with proper documentation

Minimum Requirements – Diesel Mechanic
