Purpose of the Job
The Inventory Controller is responsible for ensuring accurate stock management, reporting, and inventory control procedures within a warehouse or logistics operation. Key Responsibilities of an Inventory Controller
Operational Inventory Control
- Ensure compliance with all inventory SOPs and procedures
- Perform inventory investigations and resolve discrepancies
- Raise and manage NCRs/NCPs/IOs where required
- Ensure stock accuracy and minimise claims and damages
- Maintain system integrity across inventory processes
Storage & Stock Management
- Consolidate pallets to improve warehouse space utilisation
- Conduct bin location spot checks for accuracy
- Ensure correct handling of stock to prevent damage
- Apply correct units of measure across all inventory processes
- Align physical stock with system records
Master Data & WMS Management
- Maintain accurate product master data in warehouse systems
- Ensure correct product uploads during receiving processes
- Use Warehouse Management System (WMS) effectively
- Ensure accurate product, location, and quantity tracking
Cycle Counts & Stock Takes
- Conduct daily cycle counts and investigations
- Perform book-to-book checks and resolve variances
- Prepare and support full stock take processes
- Ensure empty bin checks are completed daily
- Report stock take results to management and clients
- Maintain accurate and accessible inventory records
Reporting & Data Analysis
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inventory reports
- Monitor and report on inventory KPIs
- Investigate KPI failures and stock variances
- Analyse inventory trends to identify improvements
- Provide corrective action recommendations
Minimum Requirements – Inventory Controller
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Logistics, Warehouse, or Business Management qualification (advantageous)
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in logistics, warehousing, or inventory control
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
