Retail Receiving and Backdoor Operations Leadership Role

Pick n Pay Retailers (Pty) Ltd is recruiting a Local Receiving Manager for its Golding on Main store in the Western Cape. This is a permanent, full-time management opportunity within the store’s receiving department, responsible for ensuring accurate delivery intake, returns processing, shrinkage control, and compliance with operational standards.

The successful candidate will oversee all receiving procedures, including dispatch of returns to vendors, administration, security controls at receiving doors, and adherence to company policies. The role is critical in protecting store profitability by minimising shrinkage risks and ensuring strict compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Receiving Supervisor ready to step into a structured retail management role with accountability for operational excellence and team leadership.

Purpose of the Role

The Local Receiving Manager is responsible for correctly receiving all store deliveries and managing the dispatch of returns to vendors.

The role ensures systematic and accurate receiving processes while minimising shrinkage and stock losses.

The position also oversees the disposal of stock in accordance with company policy and manages all administrative functions linked to receiving procedures, including visitor and merchandiser entry control.

Minimum Requirements

Matric / Grade 12 is required.

Receiving Supervisor experience is required.

Core Competencies

Ability to receive and return goods systematically and accurately according to company policies and procedures.

Strong understanding of quality control processes during receiving.

Knowledge of maintaining the cold chain for perishable goods.

Ability to ensure hygiene, housekeeping, and safe working standards are maintained.

Understanding and enforcement of security procedures at receiving doors.

Ability to prevent wastage, shrinkage, and damages.

Strong administrative capability to complete documentation accurately.

Ability to operate equipment according to agreed standards.

Effective communication skills with employees, management, customers, and suppliers.

Receiving Responsibilities

The Local Receiving Manager ensures all deliveries are received strictly in terms of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Scale checks, fire doors, alarm systems, and generator checks must be monitored as part of receiving control procedures.

All returns, including goods, equipment, and recyclables, must be processed according to the Standard Operating Procedures Manual (SOP).

Receiving deadlines must be met in accordance with SOP requirements.

All receiving areas must comply with the detailed receiving checklists and operational requirements.

Any checklist failures must be reported immediately to the relevant persons as outlined in the procedures.

The role includes completing and filing all required documentation as part of end-of-day receiving procedures.

The Local Receiving Manager has the authority to reject stock or deliveries where standards and processes are not adhered to.

Responding to queries related to Distribution Centre (DC) claims is part of operational accountability.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

The role requires maintaining housekeeping standards both inside and outside the Receiving Department.

Safety standards must be strictly adhered to in terms of receiving practices and equipment usage.

Ensuring safe working procedures reduces operational risk and protects staff and assets.

Cold chain maintenance is critical for preserving product quality and compliance with food safety regulations.

Security and Shrinkage Control

The Local Receiving Manager assists with relief security procedures at the back door.

Security controls must be enforced to minimise shrinkage risk at receiving points.

Preventing wastage, shrinkage, and damages through strict procedural compliance is a key responsibility.

Ensuring visitor and merchandiser entry control procedures are followed strengthens backdoor security.

Administration and Reporting

All receiving-related administration and documentation must be completed accurately and timeously.

Filing, documentation control, and compliance reporting are essential components of the role.

Administrative discipline supports audit readiness and operational transparency.

People Management and Development

The Local Receiving Manager is responsible for coaching and supervising receiving staff.

Effective communication, leadership, and operational guidance ensure that receiving standards are consistently maintained.

The role requires developing team members to perform according to company policies and operational requirements.
