About the Role
Based at our maintenance facilities serving the Johannesburg and Pretoria hubs, this position is the frontline defense for passenger safety and vehicle operational uptime. The Tyre Attendant plays a unique, high-impact role by ensuring that every vehicle within the Mega Express contract fleet operates on tyres that are structurally sound and perfectly maintained. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of tyre management: from inspecting wheel hubs, studs, and rims for stress cracks to executing precise road repairs and ensuring ecological disposal of scrap materials.
This permanent position requires a completed Grade 12 or a relevant National Certificate in transport maintenance or professional technical mechanical training as a non-negotiable minimum baseline. To ensure seamless integration with our maintenance teams, a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a similar technical role is required. Key Responsibilities
Fleet Maintenance, Rotation & Auditing

Conduct regular, rigorous inspections of vehicle tyre components, including rims, hubs, studs, and nuts, to identify signs of excessive wear, fatigue, or stress cracks.

Perform detailed monthly mm (millimeter) depth audits according to company policy to ensure fleet compliance.

Rotate tyres to different vehicle positions systematically using mechanical changers, hand tools, and rubber hammers.

Identify and inflate tyres accurately according to exact manufacturer pressure specifications and ply ratings.

Inspect tyre casings for hidden defects, such as punctures, sidewall tears, or bead damage.
Technical Repair & Mechanical Support

Repair punctures in tubeless tyres using professional-grade adhesive materials and expansion plugs.

Separate tube tyres from wheel rims safely using metal bars, mechanical changers, and power tools.
