Job Context & Systems Integration Architecture

In the modern supply chain and corporate logistics sectors, transport profitability and delivery precision rely entirely on the structural stability of software architectures. The Transport Application Specialist operates directly at the intersection of advanced digital technology and real-time physical fleet distribution. This role is not a basic desktop support post; it requires a specialized systems analyst who understands the operational workflow of planning, route execution, real-time fleet visibility, satellite tracking, and business intelligence reporting.

The successful incumbent will act as the primary custodian of the corporate Transport Management System (TMS). Within this integrated environment, you will monitor, configure, and troubleshoot the intricate electronic data interchanges (EDIs) and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that link the TMS to standard Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) frameworks, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and active vehicle telematics/GPS tracking platforms. Managing these data streams effectively ensures that freight planning matches warehouse inventory realities, preventing distribution friction and system-wide downtime across regional operations.

Dual-Location & Onboarding Notice: This position accommodates candidates in two primary logistical hubs: Gauteng and the Western Cape. Whether operating from the Bryanston office or the Brackenfell corporate campus, the specialist must display complete accountability, maintaining strict adherence to corporate information security frameworks and disciplined change control policies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Transport Application Support & Advanced Issue Resolution

  • Identify, log, investigate, and resolve complex Transport Application and system-related bugs or incidents within defined service level agreements (SLAs) to guarantee operational continuity.

  • Liaise directly with internal software developers, database engineers, IT infrastructure support teams, and third-party software vendors to resolve functionality, connectivity, or system performance bottlenecks.

  • Monitor live system behavior, exception logs, and data transfer accuracy, stepping in to report or escalate recurring anomalies, batch-processing failures, or suspected system misuse to executive management.

  • Provide comprehensive post-implementation support, ensuring system updates, software patches, or version releases do not disrupt localized transport distribution loops.

2. System Implementation, Testing & Integration Management

  • Provide hands-on assistance during large-scale Transport Application implementations, functional upgrades, and custom software enhancements under the guidance of the Transport Application Program Manager.

  • Actively manage and triage system integration touchpoints linking the core Transport Management System with peripheral ERP, WMS, and telematics hardware streams.

  • Participate heavily in quality assurance (QA) frameworks and user acceptance testing (UAT) cycles by drafting and executing detailed test cases, recording outcomes, and tracking software defects clearly until resolution.

  • Support system configuration, master site setups, and rule-based parameters in strict alignment with approved corporate requirements and data standards.

3. Master Data Administration & Access Security Control

  • Secure and maintain master data accuracy across the transport platform, performing routine validations, updates, and integrity checks on customer records, distribution routes, depot configurations, asset classes, and driver profiles.

  • Administer end-user access rights, system roles, and functional permissions within authorized information security boundaries, maintaining audit-ready security logs.

  • Capture and document evolving business requirements, translating operational distribution needs into practical system configuration updates under senior supervision.

4. Technical Documentation, Training & User Adoption

  • Produce clear, highly structured business process documentation, standard work instructions, emergency workarounds, and user guides resulting from application updates.

  • Compile routine analytical inputs for project managers, tracking metrics such as active system incident volumes, unresolved bugs, training hours completed, and user adoption rates.

  • Train regional personnel on newly approved application features, software releases, and standardized operating procedures to drive system consistency across the group.

Minimum Requirements & Technical Competency Profile

Academic Credentials & Experience Milestones

  • Must hold a valid Bachelors Degree, Advanced Diploma, or National Diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, Logistics Management, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technology field (Minimum NQF Level 6/7).

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of continuous, referenceable experience working inside an application support, systems analyst, software implementation, or logistics technology support capacity.

  • Documented exposure to modern Transport Management Systems (TMS) and a clear understanding of practical transport workflows (route planning, load optimization, execution visibility, and transit tracking).

  • Practical knowledge of integrated multi-system environments, specifically handling how a TMS interfaces with downstream and upstream ERP, WMS, and telematics engines.

Technical Mastery & Tools

  • Strong proficiency across the standard Microsoft 365 environment (Advanced Excel for data validation, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint structure management).

  • Demonstrated ability in application troubleshooting, including the capacity to replicate system errors, isolate root causes, apply standard patches, and document technical handovers clearly for engineering teams.

  • Exceptional technical writing capability to produce easy-to-understand end-user instructions and process flow diagrams for non-technical operations staff.

Behavioral & Analytical Attributes

  • Customer and Service Orientation: A disciplined professional who responds promptly, supports business users calmly under pressure, and follows through on issues.

  • Structured Thinking & Attention to Detail: An analytical mindset that approaches complex systemic data failures logically and maintains precise records.

  • Collaboration & Adaptability: Ability to coordinate smoothly across multi-disciplinary teams (Operations, Corporate IT, and External Vendors) while adjusting easily to fast-paced software release cycles.
