About the Role

The Storeman at Fedics Pretoria is responsible for the full operational management of all storeroom functions — from receiving stock from suppliers and issuing items from fridges, freezers, dry stores, and chemical stores, to conducting weekly stock takes, managing wastage, maintaining high hygiene standards, and ensuring accurate daily costing of stock, meals, and functions. The Storeman also administers all food, beverage, and resale item ordering, receives daily invoices on Tsebo Source, and maintains a well-organised, clean, and compliant storage environment at all times.

This is a hands-on, detail-driven role that requires someone who can operate independently with minimal supervision, plan ahead to ensure continuous stock availability, build productive supplier relationships, and produce accurate, timely costing and stock control reports. Fedics’ clients depend on the Storeman’s precision and reliability to ensure that the right products are available in the right quantities at the right time — and the Storeman’s accuracy directly protects the unit’s financial performance and food safety standards.

Please note: The Storeman may be required to relieve at other local units from time to time and to carry out any reasonable request by management as operational requirements demand.

Key Responsibilities of a Storeman

Store Operations & Stock Management

  • Organise all store operations and allocate responsibilities to personnel, ensuring the storeroom functions efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with Fedics and Tsebo standards.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels across all storage areas — dry store, fridges, freezers, and chemical store — ensuring all products are available, correctly stored, and within appropriate stock parameters.
  • Ensure stock rotation is in place at all times, applying FIFO (First In, First Out) principles to minimise waste and prevent stock from exceeding its use-by date.
  • Plan for consecutive days to ensure all stock required for upcoming service periods is available, and report any stock unavailability to the relevant manager without delay.
  • Maintain the safe keeping and protection of all products and equipment in the storeroom, taking personal responsibility for the security and integrity of all stored items.

Receiving, Issuing & Supplier Management

  • Receive all stock from suppliers in accordance with Tsebo’s policies and procedures — checking quantities, quality, and delivery documentation on receipt.
  • Issue all stock from fridges, freezers, dry stores, and chemical stores as per company specifications — including correct portion sizes, quantities, and within the specified issuing times.
  • Administer the ordering of all food, resale, and beverage items, ensuring orders are placed accurately, on time, and within budgeted parameters.
  • Build and maintain productive supplier and client relationships, communicating professionally and effectively to ensure reliable, high-quality supply and timely resolution of any delivery or quality concerns.
  • Report on product quality and escalate any supplier non-conformances or delivery discrepancies to management promptly.

Costing, Invoicing & Financial Control

  • Ensure that costing of stock, meals, and functions is completed accurately and on a daily basis, providing management with reliable financial data to support budget control and P&L management.
  • Receive all invoices on a daily basis on Tsebo Source, processing all documentation accurately and in accordance with Tsebo’s administrative procedures.
  • Prepare and control the store’s budget, working toward minimum expenditure and maximum efficiency across all stock categories.
  • Manage all wastage and leftovers, minimising losses through accurate planning, portion control, and effective stock rotation practices.

Stock Takes, Hygiene & Compliance

  • Conduct weekly stock takes accurately and on time, reconciling physical stock against system records and investigating and reporting all variances promptly.
  • Ensure that all storerooms, fridges, and freezers are cleaned regularly and that all products are correctly stacked, labelled, and date marked at all times.
  • Maintain high-quality hygiene standards throughout all storage areas in full compliance with Tsebo standards, applicable food safety legislation, and health and safety guidelines.
  • Ensure the store fulfils all legal health and safety guidelines, maintaining a safe and compliant working environment for all personnel.

Customer Service, Handovers & Operational Support

  • Report customer complaints and compliments to the relevant manager and, where possible, take immediate action to resolve issues at the point they are raised.
  • Complete proper handovers when required, ensuring that the incoming Storeman or relief team member has full, accurate information on stock levels, outstanding orders, and any operational concerns.
  • Relieve at other local units from time to time as directed by management, applying the same standards of accuracy, hygiene, and professionalism across all Fedics sites covered.
  • Operate as an effective part of the wider catering team, demonstrating good interpersonal skills and a positive, collaborative approach to all operational activities.

Core Values We Look For in a Storeman

Accuracy & Stock Integrity

In a contract catering environment, the accuracy of every stock count, every issue, every costing entry, and every invoice directly affects the unit’s financial performance and its ability to deliver consistent service. We look for Storemen who take personal ownership of their numbers — who count carefully, recount when something does not balance, investigate variances without being prompted, and maintain stock records that management can rely on without question.

Hygiene Discipline & Food Safety Commitment

The storeroom is the origin point of every ingredient that reaches the customer’s plate. We value Storemen who treat hygiene and food safety as a professional identity, not a procedural box to tick — who date mark consistently, who maintain FIFO rotation without exception, who clean storage areas to a standard that would pass an unannounced audit, and who understand that their hygiene discipline is the first line of defence in the unit’s food safety chain.

Proactive Planning & Stock Availability

A well-run storeroom never runs out of what the kitchen needs. We value Storemen who plan ahead for consecutive service periods, who track stock levels before they reach critical lows, who communicate unavailability to the manager early enough for alternatives to be arranged, and who understand that a production stoppage caused by a stock shortage is always preventable with the right level of foresight and attention.

Supplier Relationships & Professional Communication

The Storeman is the primary operational interface with suppliers on delivery days — and the quality of that relationship affects the quality and reliability of every delivery. We value Storemen who engage with suppliers professionally, who raise quality or quantity concerns calmly and accurately, who process invoices correctly and on time, and who build a working relationship that encourages suppliers to prioritise the Fedics account.

Reliability & Team Contribution

In contract catering, an absent or unprepared Storeman creates a cascade of operational challenges that affects the entire unit. We value Storemen who show up, who are ready when the first delivery arrives, who complete handovers thoroughly so the next person can hit the ground running, who relieve at other sites with the same standard they apply at their primary unit, and who understand that their reliability is one of the most valuable things they bring to the team.

Career Growth Opportunities in Contract Catering Operations & Supply Chain

Joining Fedics as a Storeman in Pretoria provides hands-on experience in contract catering stock management and operations within one of Africa’s most respected integrated facilities groups. For diligent, accurate, and proactive individuals, the progression pathway is achievable:

  • Storeman → Senior Storeman / Stock Controller
  • Senior Storeman / Stock Controller → Procurement Administrator / Operations Supervisor
  • Operations Supervisor / Procurement Administrator → Unit Manager / Catering Manager
  • Unit Manager / Catering Manager → Area Manager / Operations Manager

Your career path is in your hands.

Frequently Asked Questions – Storeman Jobs

What experience is required for this role? A minimum of 2 to 5 years’ experience in a similar Storeman, stock control, or storeroom management role is essential. This experience should include hands-on management of perishable and non-perishable stock, conducting stock takes, receiving deliveries, processing invoices, and managing wastage. Experience in the hospitality or contract catering industry is required. Proven costing and stock control experience is listed as advantageous and will strengthen the application.

What does the Tsebo Source requirement involve? Tsebo Source is the group’s procurement and invoicing management platform. The Storeman is required to receive all daily invoices on Tsebo Source and process all documentation within the system. Prior experience on Tsebo Source is advantageous — candidates who have not worked on this specific platform but have experience on comparable procurement or stock management systems will receive training on Tsebo Source as part of their onboarding.

What does “relieve at other local units” mean in practice? The Storeman may be required, from time to time, to cover Storeman duties at other Fedics units in the Pretoria area when operational requirements demand. This is a standard contract catering operational requirement and is not a permanent or regular arrangement — it applies on an as-needed basis as directed by management. Candidates should be comfortable with occasional site relief as part of their employment agreement.

Is daily costing truly part of the Storeman’s responsibility? Yes. The Storeman is responsible for ensuring that the costing of stock, meals, and functions is completed accurately and on a daily basis. This requires familiarity with the cost management processes used within the Fedics unit — including portion cost calculations, function cost sheets, and stock issue valuations. Candidates with proven costing experience will have a significant advantage in this role.

What qualifications are accepted alongside Matric? A relevant tertiary qualification in Hospitality, Food Service Management, Supply Chain, or an equivalent field is listed as essential — or an equivalent level of demonstrated competence. The “equivalent level of competence” provision means that candidates with 5+ years of strong, documented storeroom management experience in a formal catering environment may be considered even where a formal tertiary qualification is not held, provided the practical competence is demonstrably evident from their track record.

What is the closing date and how do I apply? The closing date is 05 September 2026. Quote reference number TSE260831-3 in all correspondence.
