Position Overview

Takealot is seeking a Senior Buyer (Personal Care/Beauty) to join the team in Cape Town. Reporting to the Divisional Buying Manager, this role is responsible for driving growth, innovation, and profitability in the personal care and beauty category. The ideal candidate is solutions-oriented, commercially astute, and passionate about e-commerce and the beauty industry.

This role combines strategic planning, supplier relationship management, and operational excellence to deliver a world-class customer experience while achieving financial and service objectives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Buying & Category Management

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive personal care and beauty strategy aligned with business growth objectives.

  • Source and prioritise new brands and suppliers in line with market trends and consumer demand.

  • Manage stock levels, product availability, and replenishment orders.

  • Deliver on sales, margin, listings, and stock cover targets.

2. Supplier Management & Negotiation

  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, negotiating favourable terms, pricing, and service level agreements (SLAs).

  • Monitor supplier performance, address issues, and ensure compliance with SLAs.

  • Collaborate with suppliers to innovate product offerings and promotions.

3. Customer Experience & Operations Support

  • Work closely with operations and customer service teams to ensure product quality, timely delivery, and resolution of customer queries or complaints.

  • Develop promotional programmes and manage site merchandising for the category.

  • Ensure the personal care/beauty category delivers a seamless online customer experience.

4. Analytical & Commercial Performance

  • Use data and analytics to inform buying decisions, identify trends, and address performance gaps.

  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) including sales, margin, stock levels, and customer satisfaction metrics.

  • Provide insights and recommendations to drive category growth and operational improvements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Business Science, Commerce, or related field.

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in retail buying, e-commerce, or commerce roles (8 years if qualifications not met).

  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills.

  • Experience in supplier negotiation and relationship management.

  • Existing industry networks within personal care/beauty sector advantageous.

  • Ability to prioritise tasks, plan strategically, and manage multiple projects.
