Permanent Security Opportunities at Dis-Chem Pharmacies Distribution Centre

Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is offering permanent employment opportunities for Security Guards – KZN DC (New Germany) at its KwaZulu-Natal Distribution Centre based in New Germany, KwaZulu-Natal. This role is ideal for disciplined, vigilant, and professional security officers who are committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and compliant working environment within a large retail and warehouse operation.

This position falls within the Retail division, operates in the FMCG sector, and is suitable for entry-level candidates with the required PSIRA accreditation and relevant retail security exposure.

Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of the Security Guard role is to render professional security services in line with the Private Security Industry Regulation Act 56 of 2001, as amended. Successful candidates will be responsible for protecting Dis-Chem’s assets, property, staff, and visitors by preventing criminal activity, enforcing site rules, and responding effectively to incidents.

Security Guards are expected to operate strictly according to Dis-Chem’s security standards, industry best practices, and all applicable legislation, ensuring a consistently safe and secure environment at the distribution centre.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Access Control and Site Security

Security Guards will be responsible for controlling and monitoring access to the premises by both pedestrians and vehicles. This includes verifying authorisation, conducting searches where required, and ensuring that only approved individuals enter the site.

Regular patrols of the premises must be conducted to maintain visibility, identify potential risks, and deter criminal activity. Officers must remain alert at all times and be present at their designated posts throughout their shifts.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Incident Response

Security personnel must identify, investigate, and report suspicious activities, damage, unlawful entry, or any breaches of security protocols. All incidents must be reported verbally to management and followed up with detailed written reports in line with Dis-Chem procedures.

Officers are expected to respond quickly and appropriately during emergencies, including theft, fire, alarms, or security breaches. Where required, security guards must contact emergency services or law enforcement without delay to prevent loss of life or property.

Asset Protection and Loss Prevention

A critical part of the role includes safeguarding Dis-Chem assets by preventing theft, damage, fraud, or malicious behaviour. Duties include staff and vehicle searches, supervision of refuse removal, cancellation of staff purchases, and monitoring goods movement.

Security Guards must ensure that all registers, occurrence books, and documentation are completed accurately and maintained daily.

Customer and Staff Interaction

Security Guards must maintain a professional, approachable, and courteous manner at all times. The role requires assisting staff, suppliers, and visitors while enforcing site rules fairly and respectfully.

Good customer service is essential, as security officers often serve as the first point of contact at the distribution centre.

Opening, Closing, and After-Hours Duties

Officers must be vigilant during opening and closing procedures, ensuring that all doors, windows, alarms, and access points are secured. During night shifts or after-hours operations, continuous surveillance must be maintained through patrols, alarm systems, and CCTV monitoring.

Emergency and Crisis Management

In emergency situations, Security Guards are required to assist emergency response teams, maintain order during evacuations, guide personnel to assembly points, and prevent panic or unlawful access.
