As a Retail Shop Assistant at the Aeroton branch, you will serve as the primary point of contact for trade professionals, DIY enthusiasts, and commercial buyers. Your role is to offer expert technical guidance on tool selections, demonstrate product features, process sales transactions, manage shelf inventory, and ensure an organized, customer-friendly shopping floor.
Key Performance Areas & Primary Responsibilities
1. Customer Service & Technical Sales Advice

Welcome customers warmly, handle product inquiries, and assist buyers in selecting the correct tools, machinery, or equipment for their projects.

Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base regarding product specifications, safety features, and operational benefits to help customers make informed purchasing decisions.

Recommend complementary accessories, safety gear, and hardware consumables to maximize store sales targets.
2. Point of Sale & Cash Handling

Process cash, card, and electronic payment transactions accurately and efficiently using the Point of Sale (POS) till system.

Handle basic mathematical calculations for cash floats, transaction processing, and stock counts.

Adhere strictly to company cash-handling, invoicing, and loss-prevention procedures.
3. Inventory Control & Merchandising

Manage store inventory by ensuring display shelves are fully stocked, neatly arranged, labeled, and visually appealing.

Assist with stock receiving, unpacking shipments, verifying delivery notes, and conducting routine stocktakes.

Help set up promotional campaigns, end-cap displays, and seasonal product demonstrations to drive customer engagement.
4. Store Operations & Health & Safety

Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth, efficient daily shop operations.

Enforce strict compliance with occupational health and safety regulations to maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors.

Minimum Requirements – Retail Shop Assistant
Educational Qualifications & Experience

Education: Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent qualification (Essential).

Experience: Proven track record in retail sales or customer service, ideally within the tools, machinery, hardware, or automotive equipment sector (Essential).

Technical Knowledge: Prior exposure to DIY tools, power equipment, welding machines, or general hardware (Highly Advantageous).
