About the Role

This is a senior engineering and people management role for experienced maintenance professionals who bring deep technical knowledge of beverage plant machinery, strong project management capabilities, and a proven ability to lead and develop maintenance teams in a high-performance FMCG environment.

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing the entire maintenance function at the Ceres Beverages Plant — overseeing preventative maintenance planning, technical and capital projects, budget management, SHE compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives — all while ensuring maximum production uptime and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate is a qualified engineer with 8 to 10 years’ hands-on experience with Krones, Kosme, and Tetra PAK machines, strong SAP management skills, and the leadership capability to drive meaningful improvements across the plant.


Key Responsibilities of a Maintenance Manager

Preventative Maintenance & Production Uptime

  • Uphold the preventative maintenance plan to ensure maximum production uptime.
  • Make informed maintenance decisions that directly impact production scheduling and output.
  • Manage and coordinate maintenance activities to minimise unplanned downtime across the beverages plant.

Technical & Capital Project Management

  • Manage technical, process, and internal projects to improve percentage total efficiency (%TE) and drive system improvements.
  • Implement equipment upgrades and enhancements including CAPEX projects.
  • Ensure all projects are within technical quality specifications and completed on schedule within budgetary constraints.
  • Plan implementation of projects and maintenance activities, assigning responsibilities to subordinates accordingly.

Budget Development & Control

  • Develop and control the maintenance department budget on a month-by-month basis.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budget forecasts and CAPEX submissions.
  • Control consumables inventory for the maintenance department to optimise cost efficiency.
  • Evaluate tenders and attend site meetings related to maintenance and project activities.

SHE Compliance & Coordination

  • Ensure all Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental (SHE) standards are in place as SHE Coordinator for the maintenance function.
  • Maintain a safe working environment across all maintenance activities and project sites.
  • Ensure the team adheres to all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times.

People Management & Development

  • Lead, manage, and develop the maintenance team — executing people management actions effectively.
  • Assign responsibilities to subordinates and support their professional development.
  • Build a high-performing, accountable maintenance team through strong leadership and clear communication.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement projects to reduce energy costs, lower maintenance costs, and increase factory throughput.
  • Liaise with internal clients and relevant departments including estimating, contracting, and design disciplines.
  • Identify opportunities for process and system improvements that enhance plant performance and reliability.

Minimum Requirements – Maintenance Manager

Educational Qualifications:

  • Qualification in Engineering — Mechanical or Electrical (essential)

Experience:

  • 8 to 10 years’ experience with Krones and Kosme machines (essential)
  • 8 to 10 years’ experience with Tetra PAK machines (essential)
  • Proven track record in maintenance management within a beverage or FMCG plant environment

Technical Skills:

  • SAP management proficiency (essential)
  • Strong understanding of preventative maintenance planning and CAPEX project management
  • Knowledge of SHE standards and compliance requirements in a manufacturing environment
