Role Purpose & Operational Context

An effective retail floor layout requires continuous movement, strategic layout management, and meticulous product organization. A Health Merchandiser at Dis-Chem does not simply stack shelves; they are the visual custodian of their assigned category, directly driving store conversion rates and consumer satisfaction.

This role balances physical stamina with administrative precision. You will be responsible for tracking stock from the moment it leaves the delivery bay to its placement on the retail floor. This includes implementing a strict First In, First Out (FIFO) stock rotation framework to eliminate product expiration risks, ensuring pricing labels match corporate barcoding systems, and building high-impact promotional displays. Because this role operates directly in the retail aisle, the Health Merchandiser acts as an accessible brand ambassador, handling day-to-day stock queries and steering customers toward appropriate specialist departments.

Physical & Operational Demands: To maintain a fully stocked, safe retail floor, the candidate must be physically fit and capable of lifting, carrying, and moving heavy delivery boxes continuously. Additionally, absolute flexibility is required to work standard retail trading shifts, including weekends, public holidays, and evening extended hours.

The Merchandising and Stock Lifecycle Protocol

Sustaining premium product visibility and mitigating inventory shrinkage requires a disciplined workflow. The Health Merchandiser executes the following on-floor sequence daily:

1.Stock Pulling & Allocation Verification:Inventory Extraction.

Retrieve newly delivered freight or existing overstock items from the central store room. Cross-check batch numbers and ensure stock is carefully transported to designated retail floor partitions without disrupting consumer traffic.

2.FIFO Processing & Expiry Management:Shelf Ingestion.

Unpack products onto front-shop shelves utilizing strict First In, First Out (FIFO) rotation rules. Push items with closer expiration dates to the front of the shelf matrix while positioning newer batches at the back.

3.Facing Up, Labeling & Pricing Audits:Visual Merchandising.

Align and “face up” all product packaging so branding elements are neatly visible. Review shelf-edge labels (SELs) to verify that pricing information is accurate, up to date, and clearly displayed.

4.ZMORE Analysis & Reporting:Shrinkage Control.

Monitor stock volumes dynamically and assist with general stocktakes. Analyze stock variances using automated reporting systems, identify missing items, and report any bad or suspicious behavior to store management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Visual Merchandising Standards & Floor Upkeep

  • Restock and replenish localized health and wellness merchandise continuously throughout the day in alignment with corporate planograms.

  • Build, stock, face up, and structurally maintain promotional end-cap and aisle displays to capture consumer attention.

  • Take personal responsibility for the daily cleanliness, order, and physical upkeep of designated categories on both the shop floor and store room shelves.

2. Stock Control, Auditing & Systems Administration

  • Execute regular stock rotation routines across health categories to ensure maximum product freshness and reduce shelf expirations.

  • Assist store leadership and audit teams during macro-level periodic inventory counts and general stocktakes.

  • Utilize SAP and Unisolv retail applications (where applicable) alongside ZMORE reports to evaluate active product ordering demands and track stock counts.

3. Customer Engagement & Asset Protection

  • Provide helpful, friendly, and polished customer service to walk-in patrons, resolving stock accessibility queries directly.

  • Collaborate professionally with floor staff, pharmacy dispensers, and senior store management to optimize overall floor efficiency.

  • Maintain a vigilant presence on the floor, proactively reporting suspicious or non-compliant behavior by either staff or customers to the security division.
