What Does a General Worker Do at HCT?
General Workers at Housing Company Tshwane are responsible for rendering general routine maintenance and upkeep work at all buildings owned and managed by HCT. In this role, you will maintain cleanliness and healthy conditions across HCT’s building portfolio — including sweeping, litter collection, grass cutting, tree trimming, flowerbeds, ablution facilities, and waste removal — while also assisting with loading and offloading and operating small equipment and machinery.
This is a physically demanding, outdoors-focused maintenance role that requires Grade 10 or equivalent, 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience, physical fitness, and a positive, dependable attitude.
Key Responsibilities of a General Worker
Daily Facilities Upkeep
- Conduct daily upkeep of all HCT facilities to maintain clean, safe, and healthy building environments.
- Pick up litter and sweep in and around all buildings owned and managed by HCT.
- Empty bins in all buildings owned and managed by HCT on a regular basis.
- Remove waste dumping in and around HCT buildings and ensure proper disposal.
Grounds & Outdoor Maintenance
- Cut grass, trim trees, and de-weed plants on and around pavements and walkways.
- Clean and maintain flowerbeds on HCT premises.
- Ensure all outdoor areas around HCT buildings are neat, hazard-free, and well-maintained at all times.
Building Cleaning
- Clean the buildings assigned to the incumbent to the required hygiene and presentation standard.
- Clean ablution facilities in all assigned buildings thoroughly and regularly to maintain a high standard of hygiene for residents and visitors.
Loading, Offloading & Equipment Operation
- Assist with the loading and offloading of different objects as required.
- Handle small equipment and machinery safely and in accordance with operating instructions.
- Follow all instructions from supervisors regarding the use and care of equipment.
Minimum Requirements – General Worker
