The main purpose of the General Assistant role in the Building Department at Brights Hardware is to deliver exceptional service to both internal and external customers, including delivery and transfer drivers. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Support & Vehicle Loading

Load customer vehicles, delivery trucks, and transfer trucks promptly and accurately.

Assist customers with friendly service and basic product knowledge regarding building materials.

Ensure all customer purchases match receipts during the loading process to prevent stock losses.
Stock Control & Yard Operations
-
Ensure that all stock items in the building department are properly stacked and counted.

Assist team members with pulling stock accurately for scheduled inter-store transfers.

Bag materials such as stone and sand efficiently according to standard operational requirements.

Participate actively in perpetual stocktakes to maintain inventory accuracy.
Loss Control & Incident Reporting

Identify and report any stock shortages immediately to the department supervisor.

Report any stock breakages or damaged goods following company procedures.

Monitor yard activities closely to ensure zero loss of stock or assets.
Housekeeping & Maintenance

Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of the work area by sweeping regularly.

Uphold high standards of good housekeeping across the building yard and storage bays.

Keep loading areas clear of hazards to ensure a safe environment for customers and vehicles.
Teamwork & Operational Support

Perform any alternative work-related tasks delegated by superiors and management.

Communicate effectively with team members and transfer drivers to maintain operational flow.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Educational Qualifications

Grade 12 / Matric or an equivalent qualification.
Experience

1 year minimum experience in a similar retail, hardware, or yard environment (preferred).
