What Does a Financial Associate Do at AVBOB?

As a Financial Associate, you will be the face of AVBOB in your community. Your primary focus will be marketing and selling AVBOB’s life-changing products to new and existing clients, while also supporting the Funeral Division through active recruitment of funeral business.

This is a client-facing, target-driven role that rewards motivated, people-oriented individuals who are passionate about making a real difference in people’s lives during their most difficult times.


Key Responsibilities – AVBOB Financial Associate

Insurance & Financial Product Marketing

  • Actively market and sell AVBOB Funeral Insurance policies to individuals, families, and groups in the Pretoria East area.
  • Promote and sell AVBOB Savings Plans and all related financial products to new and existing clients.
  • Build and maintain a strong client portfolio through relationship-based selling and regular follow-ups.
  • Identify new sales opportunities through referrals, community engagement, and prospecting.
  • Achieve and exceed monthly sales targets in line with AVBOB’s performance standards.

Funeral Division Recruitment

  • Actively recruit funerals for the AVBOB Funeral Division by building relationships with families and community members.
  • Promote the full range of AVBOB funeral services and products alongside financial products.
  • Ensure seamless referral of clients between the Financial and Funeral divisions.

Client Service & Relationship Management

  • Provide accurate, professional, and compliant advice on all AVBOB products and services.
  • Conduct regular client reviews and ensure policies are kept up to date.
  • Handle client queries and complaints professionally and escalate where necessary.
  • Build long-term trust with clients to drive referrals and policy retention.

Compliance & Regulatory Adherence

  • Operate fully within the requirements of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS) Act.
  • Maintain Fit and Proper status as required by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA).
  • Complete all required compliance training, product knowledge assessments, and regulatory updates.
  • Maintain accurate and complete client records in accordance with POPIA and FAIS requirements.

Minimum Requirements – AVBOB Financial Associate

Educational Qualifications

  • Matric (Grade 12) and/or tertiary education with 30 credits on NQF Level 4

FAIS Fit and Proper Compliance Requirements

Applicants must comply with FAIS legislation based on when they entered the financial services industry:

Entered the industry 2004 – 2007:

  • 30 credits on NQF Level 4, obtained by 31 December 2009

Entered the industry 2008 – 2009:

  • 30 credits or 60 credits on NQF Level 4, obtained by 31 December 2011
  • OR a full FAIS-recognised qualification obtained by 31 December 2013

Entered the industry from 2010 onwards:

  • A full FAIS-recognised qualification is required

Additional Requirements

  • Clear ITC credit record (no adverse credit history)
  • Clear criminal record (no previous convictions)
  • Previous marketing or sales experience is required
  • RE 5 (Regulatory Examination for Representatives) is advantageous but not essential
