About the Role

This is a compliance-driven, people-focused EHS role for experienced safety professionals who thrive in busy manufacturing environments, take full ownership of workplace safety and environmental compliance, and have the ability to drive meaningful behavioural and cultural change across a plant.

The EHS Coordinator will assist the EHS Site Manager and site management to ensure employee safety by identifying, evaluating, and controlling all workplace risks — in full compliance with the OHS Act and PepsiCo’s international EHS standards — while ensuring the plant meets all applicable National Environmental Standards.

The ideal candidate brings 5 years’ FMCG experience in an engineering, production, or EHS role, holds a relevant EHS diploma, and has practical ISO 14001 implementation or auditing experience.


Key Responsibilities of an EHS Coordinator

SHE Committee & Governance

  • Schedule and manage SHE Committee meetings across the Atlantis Manufacturing and Warehousing site.
  • Conduct monthly and annual EHS Steering Group meetings with the senior leadership team.
  • Review and approve meeting minutes and maintain accurate records for continuous and future reference.

EHS Action Tracking & Reporting

  • Maintain the EHS action tracker on a daily and weekly basis — including accident reports, non-conformance reports, hazard reports, and all related inspections.
  • Ensure near-misses are recorded and action plans are addressed, providing full visibility to the plant on progress.
  • Maintain the GEHSMS programme and ensure compliance to all applicable standards.
  • Manage MyEHS to ensure adherence to gatekeeping, effectiveness reviews, action plan creation, self-assessments, and completion of compliance tasks.

Risk Assessments & Compliance

  • Ensure risk assessments are reviewed, maintained, and action plans are managed accordingly.
  • Plan and facilitate risk assessments across the site.
  • Ensure compliance with the COIDA Act and all applicable OHS Act requirements.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are reviewed timeously and required updates are effected.
  • Ensure all documents are stored and preserved in line with internal and statutory retention requirements.

Training & Induction

  • Ensure training records for all critical tasks and safe working practices are accurately maintained.
  • Ensure the training matrix is kept up to date and follow-up training is completed as scheduled.
  • Review and ensure EHS induction material is accurate and assess the effectiveness of induction assessments.

Emergency Preparedness & Awareness

  • Plan and lead emergency drills across the site.
  • Plan and lead EHS awareness campaigns for the site.
  • Drive culture and capability initiatives including townhalls, round tables, campaigns, and behavioural transformation initiatives.

Environmental & Sustainability Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with wastewater treatment plant and waste management requirements.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives including AWS and ReCon.
  • Ensure progress against MESS remedial work plans and assessments.
  • Ensure EHS AOP for the site is achieved across KPIs including recorded incidents, waste, and MESS targets.

FM Global & Accreditation Management

  • Coordinate and manage FM Global compliance and accreditations for the site.
  • Ensure all accreditation requirements are met and maintained within required timelines.

Minimum Requirements – EHS Coordinator

Educational Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 (essential)
  • 3-year Diploma in an EHS-related field (minimum essential qualification)
  • ISO 14001 implementation and/or auditing qualification or experience (essential)
  • Safety management qualification or certification (essential)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in FMCG — in an engineering, production, or EHS role (essential)

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge and application of the OHS Act, COIDA Act, and National Environmental Standards
  • Experience with GEHSMS, MyEHS, or equivalent EHS management systems
  • ISO 14001 implementation and/or auditing experience
  • FM Global compliance and accreditation management experience (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of MESS assessments and sustainability programmes including AWS and ReCon

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong risk assessment planning and facilitation skills
  • Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to lead EHS culture and behavioural transformation initiatives
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting, meetings, and awareness campaigns
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple compliance priorities simultaneously
