The Department of Health invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Driver (X1 Post) within the Oral Health Directorate at the Ekurhuleni Health District. This role supports essential dental services by ensuring the safe and timely transportation of staff, consumables, documents, and mobile dental services to clinics across the district.

This opportunity is ideal for a responsible, safety-conscious driver with solid experience and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced public health environment.

Salary Package

  • Salary: R163 680.00 – R192 810.00 per annum

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • AET Level 4 (Standard 7 / Grade 9 report) up to Grade 12

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ driving experience

  • Valid Code 10 (C1) driver’s licence

  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP)

  • Ability to read and write

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team

  • Ability to work independently when required

  • Willingness to work shifts and public holidays

  • Ability to drive and operate the dental mobile unit

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of transport and support duties, including:

  • Executing authorised transportation of dental consumables, staff, documents, and equipment to and from clinics

  • Collecting stock from Pretoria dental stores and delivering it to clinics

  • Collecting mail from the district office and delivering it to clinics

  • Collecting medication from pharmacies, stationery, and goods from depots in line with VA2 documentation

  • Checking stock, invoices, VA2 forms, and completing trip authority

  • Inspecting vehicles before use, including checking oil, fuel, water, and tyres

  • Reporting minor and major vehicle defects or accidents immediately

  • Complying at all times with Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements

  • Attending to enquiries professionally and providing guidance where necessary

  • Ensuring proper handling, safekeeping, and control of government vehicles and accessories

  • Ensuring that the driver’s licence and PDP are always valid and in possession

  • Keeping state vehicles clean, tidy, and roadworthy

  • Applying knowledge of transport policies and government fleet management

  • Performing general duties assigned by the Supervisor or Manager

This position requires discipline, accountability, and a strong commitment to service delivery.
