Key Responsibilities of a Driver Salesman
Prompt Delivery & Customer Service
- Ensure the prompt transportation and efficient delivery of goods on the assigned route, with all deliveries completed within 48 hours of receiving the order.
- Ensure that zero customer complaints are received from marketing and customer service teams as a result of delivery failures, late arrivals, or unprofessional conduct.
- Ensure that all deliveries are made with the correct invoices and that a signature for stock (POD — Proof of Delivery) is obtained and completed at every stop.
- Represent RCL Foods and the Sunbake brand professionally and courteously in every customer interaction along the route.
Sales & Revenue Generation
- Actively sell Sunbake Bread and confectionery to existing and potential customers along the assigned route, maximising sales volume on every stop.
- Achieve and maintain a daily hit rate of 95%, consistently meeting the sales targets set by the Depot Manager.
- Identify and pursue new customer opportunities along the route to grow the customer base and increase route revenue.
- Reduce product write-offs to a maximum of 1% of daily sales through accurate ordering, careful handling, and effective stock rotation.
Stock Management & Returns
- Ensure the effective and efficient handling of stock returns, with all returns authorised by the Depot Manager before processing.
- Return all crates to the bakery on a daily basis without exception, maintaining accurate crate accountability throughout the route.
- Ensure that returned stock is handled in accordance with company policy and SOPs, minimising losses and maintaining the integrity of the returns process.
Fleet Management & Vehicle Compliance
- Ensure the efficient operation of the delivery vehicle by maintaining it within scheduled maintenance parameters at all times.
- Check tyre pressures daily before commencing the route, reporting any concerns to the relevant supervisor or fleet manager immediately.
- Ensure that the vehicle is clean at all times, both internally and externally, reflecting the professional standards of RCL Foods and the Sunbake brand.
- Ensure that both the driver’s licence and PDP are renewed before their expiry dates, taking personal responsibility for maintaining valid documentation at all times.
Documentation, Policy & Compliance
- Ensure that all delivery documentation — including invoices, PODs, and stock return authorisations — is completed accurately and retained in accordance with company policy.
- Adhere strictly to all company policies and procedures governing the Driver Salesman role, including delivery standards, stock handling, vehicle management, and customer engagement.
- Report any vehicle defects, route concerns, or customer issues to the Depot Manager promptly and accurately.

Educational Qualifications:

Experience:
- Prior experience in a route sales, delivery, or Driver Salesman role in an FMCG or food distribution environment (advantageous)
