The Northern Cape Department of Health invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for DRIVER REF NO: NCDOH 36/2026 (X1 POST) at the Northern Cape Mental Health Hospital. The purpose of this position is to render driver and messenger services in support of hospital operations.

Job Purpose

To render driver and messenger services.

The successful candidate will support the hospital by ensuring safe transportation of employees, patients, documents, mail, and equipment while maintaining proper vehicle care and record-keeping.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 10 / ABET Level 4 or equivalent qualification.

Code B or C1 valid driver’s license with PDP.

7 – 12 months relevant experience as a driver.

Applicants must ensure that their driver’s license and PDP are valid at the time of application.

Competency Profile

The successful candidate must demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and the ability to perform assigned duties with care and professionalism. Attention to detail and compliance with vehicle inspection and record-keeping requirements are essential.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Collect and deliver documents internally and externally.

Collect and deliver mail to and from the hospital.

Transport employees and patients as required.

Collect and deliver office equipment.

Perform routine maintenance on the allocated vehicle and report defects timeously.

Conduct daily trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure that the vehicle is in the best condition at all times.

Complete all required and prescribed records and logbooks relating to the vehicle and goods handled.

This role plays an important operational support function within the hospital. The Driver must ensure safe transport at all times and maintain compliance with departmental procedures.

Work Environment

The position is based at the Northern Cape Mental Health Hospital in Kimberley. The Driver will operate within a healthcare environment and must adhere to safety standards and transport regulations.

The role requires interaction with hospital staff and patients, and therefore professionalism and responsible conduct are essential at all times.
