Mining Plant & Yellow Equipment Maintenance Role – Skilled Mechanical Trade

Fraser Alexander is seeking a qualified Diesel Mechanic to join its mining operations in the North West province. This permanent skilled position supports the maintenance and repair of plant and equipment within a mining environment.

The role focuses on delivering efficient maintenance services while adhering strictly to safety standards and operational procedures. This opportunity is suited to trade-qualified diesel mechanics with experience working on Trackless Mobile Machines (TMM) and yellow equipment within mining operations.

Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of the Diesel Mechanic is to render an efficient maintenance service on plant and equipment while adhering to all safety requirements.

The role ensures operational reliability by performing inspections, conducting diagnostics, executing repairs, and maintaining accurate service records.

The position contributes directly to equipment availability, reduced downtime, and compliance with safety standards within a mining environment.

Key Responsibilities

Inspections and Reporting

Conduct all relevant inspections and diagnostic tests to determine the condition of vehicles and equipment.

Prepare detailed reports outlining findings and recommended solutions.

Interpret diagnostic results accurately and provide suitable corrective actions.

Safety Aspects on Plant and Equipment

Ensure compliance with all maintenance standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Neutralise electrical, kinetic, and potential energy sources before commencing tasks to ensure safety.

Report all accidents, incidents, and safety deviations in accordance with procedures.

Maintain adherence to safety and operational standards at all times.

Maintenance of Plant and Equipment

Prepare work plans after fully scoping and identifying mechanical issues.

Order required parts and maintain parts inventory to support maintenance schedules.

Perform both planned and unplanned maintenance tasks.

Repair or replace vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, suspensions, transmissions, and braking systems according to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications.

Repair or replace light fittings, wiring harnesses, batteries, alternators, starters, ignitions, and proximity switches.

Repair and maintain basic electrical systems on vehicles including 12v, 24v, and 48v systems.

Replace hydraulic equipment such as pumps, valves, and cylinders.

Conduct oil sampling, analyse results, and report findings.

Test drive vehicles to assess performance after maintenance or repairs.

Conduct site visits during emergencies or sudden breakdowns to restore operational functionality.

Ensure that all tools and equipment are kept in safe and serviceable condition.

General Responsibilities

Adhere to SHEQ-C Code of Conduct requirements, employment legislation, and company policies and procedures.

Ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained for plant and equipment.

Maintain detailed and accurate records of serviced vehicles and maintenance activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate

All training certificates and module documentation from an accredited training centre

Valid driver’s licence

Experience Requirements

Minimum three years’ experience on Trackless Mobile Machines (TMM) in a mining environment

Minimum five years’ experience on yellow equipment

Basic electrical exposure
