Strategic Role Context & Plant Finance Value

In the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) environments, cost containment and margin optimization are the core drivers of corporate sustainability. At Pedros, the Cost Accountant acts as the premier financial gatekeeper within the central manufacturing and distribution ecosystem. Managing plant finance operations requires a deep understanding of how raw supply line components transition through complex logistical channels into finalized store-ready stock.

This position demands sharp analytical dexterity and active thinking adaptability. You will be entirely responsible for overseeing standard costing accuracy and building structural integrity within the system’s Bills of Materials (BOM). When thousands of units move rapidly through an automated production plant, even minor discrepancies between physical movements and digital entries can trigger severe ledger misalignments. The Cost Accountant will systematically audit these variances, identify production waste, streamline operational bottlenecks, and supply executive leadership with the highly refined financial intelligence required to execute high-stakes commercial decisions.

Internal Controls Mandate: Beyond standard bookkeeping, the incoming associate must possess the confidence to actively design, implement, and enforce rigorous Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across the factory floor and inventory receiving bays, reinforcing corporate governance and defending company assets against shrinkage or administrative loss.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Costing Architecture & Bills of Materials (BOM) Governance

  • Build, maintain, and audit comprehensive standard costing matrix structures and precise Bills of Materials (BOM) within the Sage 200 Evolution accounting network.

  • Ensure all raw materials, packaging elements, and associated overhead costs are dynamically updated, allocated, and moved into active Work in Progress (WIP) digital modules before processing cycles begin on the production floor.

  • Monitor fluctuations in supplier intake costs, updating standard manufacturing costs regularly to preserve margin visibility.

2. Variance Diagnostics & Margin Optimization Tracking

  • Champion comprehensive weekly and month-end Work in Progress (WIP) reconciliation protocols to balance production line inputs against final yields.

  • Monitor, analyze, and map complex material usage variances, stock reconciliations, and manufacturing discrepancies across the distribution site.

  • Identify operational cost-reduction points and present structured, data-supported recommendations to management to expand overall group gross margins.

3. Internal Controls & Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Bridge the critical gap between real-world warehouse inventory handlings and automated ERP entries by drafting, reviewing, and rolling out advanced internal audit controls.

  • Partner with floor managers, logistics coordinators, and receiving supervisors to eliminate entry delays, ensuring physical tracking matches data timelines.

  • Conduct regular diagnostic risk reviews of supply chain assets to protect stock holdings and enforce strict corporate financial governance rules.

4. General Ledger Integrity & Month-End Financial Reporting

  • Compile, verify, and submit accurate management accounts, operational plant scorecards, and month-end finance packets in accordance with corporate reporting deadlines.

  • Perform detailed General Ledger (GL) account reconciliations, journal entries, and balance sheet evaluations to guarantee complete data accuracy.

  • Design, manage, and track localized monthly operational budgets and forward-looking forecasts, highlighting spending variances and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

Minimum Requirements & Management Profile

Academic Prerequisites & Core Credentials

  • A recognized, completed Tertiary Qualification in Financial Management, Cost and Management Accounting, or General Commerce (BCom).

  • Professional certification or active progression toward a CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) designation is strongly preferred.

Experience Milestones & Industry Expertise

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of consecutive, referenceable experience operating as a Cost Accountant, Plant Controller, or highly similar finance role.

  • Direct background working within the FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods), QSR / Fast Food, or High-Volume Retail Distribution sectors is highly essential to navigate the speed of operations.

Technical Systems & Soft Skills

  • ERP Mastery: Deep practical experience navigating Sage 200 Evolution or equivalent intermediate-to-advanced enterprise resource planning accounting software databases.

  • Advanced Analytics: Exceptional proficiency utilizing Microsoft Excel for complex data modeling, pivot tables, VLOOKUP architectures, and automated financial profiling.

  • Communication Eloquence: The ability to communicate financial data clearly and effectively across all tiers of the organization—translating technical ledger variations into clear actions for floor operators and corporate executives alike.
