Safair Operations, trading as FlySafair, is recruiting a highly skilled Continued Airworthiness Specialist to join its team on a permanent basis at the head office in Bonaero Park, Johannesburg. This role is ideal for an experienced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) with strong regulatory knowledge and a passion for aviation safety, compliance, and quality assurance.

Reporting to the Senior Continued Airworthiness Specialist, the successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring FlySafair’s aircraft remain fully compliant with airworthiness standards and South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) regulations.


About the Role

The Continued Airworthiness Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all aircraft, components, and maintenance activities meet approved technical, safety, and regulatory standards before release to service. The role involves in-depth inspections, audits, documentation control, and close interaction with Approved Maintenance Organisations (AMOs) and regulatory bodies.

This position requires a detail-oriented professional who can operate independently, exercise sound judgement, and maintain the highest standards of aviation safety and compliance.


Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Work-Pack and Compliance Review

The successful candidate will review maintenance work-packs prior to handover to the AMO, ensuring alignment with aircraft status reports and due items as per the SAM system. This includes verifying that all tasks are correctly planned and documented.


Aircraft, Parts, and Component Inspections

The role includes ensuring that no defective or un-airworthy parts are installed on any FlySafair aircraft before release to service. Responsibilities include inspecting and accepting all incoming material, including new parts, supplies, and repaired components from contracted service providers.


Quality and Technical Inspections

You will perform quality and technical inspections on aircraft, components, parts, and systems. This includes in-progress inspections during maintenance, repair, modification, rework, and overhaul activities, as well as assuming responsibility for final inspection sign-off.


Tooling, Equipment, and Calibration Oversight

The Continued Airworthiness Specialist will inspect on-site equipment and tooling used for aircraft maintenance, ensuring compliance with manuals and calibration requirements for precision test equipment.


Documentation and Record Control

The role requires ensuring the accuracy and proper maintenance of the aircraft document library. All inspection, maintenance records, reports, and forms must be completed accurately before authorised release to service. You will maintain efficient filing systems for completed work orders and inspection documentation.


Audits, Ramp Inspections, and Regulatory Compliance

Responsibilities include conducting routine aircraft ramp inspections, performing audits to ensure compliance with maintenance procedures and airworthiness standards, and writing up discrepancies in accordance with FlySafair procedures. Defects and un-airworthy conditions must be reported accurately and timeously.


Minimum Requirements

Candidates applying for this position must meet the following essential requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent

  • Trade Certificate as an Aircraft Technician

  • Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) License with B737-400 and B737-800 ratings

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an AME

  • At least 1 year of direct interaction with the SACAA

  • Sound knowledge of aircraft maintenance practices and aviation regulations

  • Strong understanding of South African Civil Aviation Regulations and Technical Standards

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)


Qualifications Advantageous

  • Relevant Diploma or Degree (NQF Level 6 or 7)


Experience and Professional Background

This role is suited to seasoned aviation professionals with extensive hands-on AME experience, strong regulatory exposure, and proven ability to manage inspections, audits, and compliance activities within a commercial airline environment.
