About the Two Campus Locations

Siteto Campus — one of Ingwe TVET College’s campuses in the OR Tambo District, Eastern Cape. Situated in a rural community environment serving local students with vocational and NCV programmes.

Ngqungqushe Campus — another Ingwe TVET College campus in the OR Tambo District, serving the Ngqungqushe and surrounding communities with post-school education and training.

Both campuses form part of Ingwe TVET College’s network serving the broader OR Tambo and southern Eastern Cape rural communities.

Purpose of the Role

The Cleaner is responsible for ensuring a high level of cleanliness throughout the campus — cleaning classrooms, offices, and outdoor areas, carrying out gardening duties, emptying bins, maintaining pathways and borders, and supporting the overall cleanliness and presentation of the campus learning environment.

Key Responsibilities – Cleaner

Campus Cleaning

  • Ensure the cleaning of classrooms and surroundings — sweeping, mopping, dusting, and maintaining all indoor and outdoor learning and office areas to a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Ensure high levels of cleanliness throughout the campus — maintaining all buildings, ablution facilities, walkways, and common areas in a professionally presented condition.
  • Use cleaning materials appropriately — applying correct cleaning products and equipment to each surface type, and following all safety requirements attached to cleaning duties.

Gardening & Groundskeeping

  • Carry out numerous gardening duties requiring a minimum amount of supervision — including soil cultivation, digging, forking, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, and planting.
  • Keep borders, throughfares, and campus footpaths clear and free — maintaining safe, tidy, and accessible outdoor pathways for students and staff.
  • Empty litter bins around the campus — ensuring timely refuse removal and a litter-free campus environment.

Flexibility & Communication

  • Be flexible to the changing demands of the post — adapting to varying cleaning and gardening priorities throughout the academic year.
  • Communicate effectively in at least two official languages — supporting clear, professional interaction with students, staff, and visitors across the campus.
  • Manage time effectively — completing all cleaning and gardening duties within required timeframes without constant supervision.

Minimum Requirements – Cleaner

  • Grade 10 / Standard 8 — essential (Grade 12 or NCV Level 4 not required)
  • Ability to communicate in at least two official languages — essential
  • Basic literacy skills to read operating instructions and notices
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures, maintenance procedures, and safety requirements
  • Ability to use cleaning materials appropriately
  • Flexible and able to manage time effectively

Why Apply for an Ingwe TVET Cleaner Post?

  • Grade 10 Only — Most Accessible Ingwe TVET Post — Requiring only Grade 10, these are the most educationally accessible posts in the entire Ingwe TVET College batch — open to community members who did not complete secondary school beyond Standard 8/Grade 10
  • Two Simultaneous Permanent Posts — One position at Siteto Campus and one at Ngqungqushe Campus — candidates who live near either campus should apply for the relevant location; those willing to work at either may apply for both simultaneously
  • Permanent Employment in the OR Tambo District — Permanent institutional employment in one of South Africa’s most economically challenged rural districts — providing income security, structured leave, and government-equivalent benefits that casual or domestic work cannot offer
  • Bilingual Requirement as Community Advantage — The two official languages requirement specifically advantages local community members who speak isiXhosa alongside English — the most natural language combination for OR Tambo District residents and the primary practical language of these campuses
  • Combined with Handyman and Data Capturer Posts — Ingwe TVET College currently has four permanent posts published simultaneously (Data Capturer Level 04 at Maluti, Handyman Level 03 at Siteto, Cleaner Level 02 at Siteto and Ngqungqushe) — eligible candidates may apply for multiple posts across the College’s campuses

Career Growth Path – TVET Campus Support Services

  • Cleaner (Level 02) → Senior Cleaner (Level 03)
  • Senior Cleaner → Groundsman / Facilities Support
  • Facilities Support → Campus Support Supervisor

Frequently Asked Questions – Cleaner Jobs OR Tambo Eastern Cape

Why does the Cleaner post also include gardening duties? At smaller rural TVET campuses, the Cleaner role combines indoor cleaning functions with outdoor groundskeeping — covering both classroom/building cleaning and the gardens, grounds, and outdoor pathways of the campus. This combined cleaning-and-groundskeeping scope is typical of campus support roles at rural TVET institutions where dedicated groundsman positions are not separately staffed. Candidates should be comfortable with both indoor cleaning and outdoor garden/grounds maintenance tasks.

Can I apply for both the Siteto and Ngqungqushe Cleaner posts? Yes — submit a separate Z83 application for each campus, using the correct reference number: 2026/03/08 for Siteto Campus and 2026/03/09 for Ngqungqushe Campus. Both applications go to the same address. If you live between the two campuses or are willing to work at either location, applying for both doubles your appointment probability from this recruitment round.

Can I also apply for the Ingwe TVET Handyman post at Siteto Campus simultaneously? Yes — the Handyman post (Ref: 2026/03/04) at Siteto Campus, the Data Capturer (Ref: 2026/03/07) at Maluti Campus, and both Cleaner posts all share the same application address and closing date of 07 April 2026 at 16:00. Candidates who meet the requirements for more than one post may submit separate Z83 applications for each — maximising their overall probability of appointment from this Ingwe TVET batch.

What two official languages are most practical at Ingwe TVET campuses? In the OR Tambo District of the Eastern Cape, isiXhosa is the dominant home language of the local community — and the most practically relevant second language alongside English for campus cleaning and groundskeeping roles. isiXhosa-speaking candidates from the local community are therefore specifically advantaged for these posts — meeting the bilingual requirement naturally and communicating effectively with the student and staff community they serve.
