What Does a Cashier Do at GrandWest Casino?
Cashiers at GrandWest Casino are the frontline customer service point for facilitating the flow and securing of cash from transactional exchanges with guests, satellite stations, and other cash desk areas on the gaming floor — including casinos and the vault. In this role, you will handle player transactions including cash, chips, vouchers, and smart cards, perform daily reconciliations, calculate and execute pay-outs, identify and escalate suspicious transactions, and assist with count processes as required — all in line with internal professional standards and gaming regulations.
This is a high-accuracy, customer-focused, gaming regulation-compliant role that requires a Grade 12 certificate, prior cashiering experience, a valid gaming licence, and successful completion of the Cashier Training School requirements.
Key Responsibilities of a Cashier
Prepared Work Area
- Check the work area before every shift to ensure all equipment is functioning and ready for service.
- Check the cleanliness of your own section or station and maintain it to the required standard throughout the shift.
- Communicate and follow up on the correction of any equipment faults or defects promptly.
Customer Engagement
- Connect with all guests by providing a warm welcome, greeting them with a friendly smile, and acknowledging them on arrival and departure.
- Interact with guests and provide professional service standards and relevant solutions at all times.
- Identify customers and understand their preferences to enhance the guest experience.
- Educate customers on business unit facilities, products, and current promotions.
- Handle customer complaints, requests, and suggestions through to resolution, escalating where necessary.
Cash Desk Transactions
- Handle all player transaction requirements including the exchange of cash, chips, vouchers, and smart cards, and paying out winnings.
- Complete daily reconciliations including treasury, automated cashier machine (ACM), and chip reconciliations.
- Calculate and execute pay-outs accurately and in accordance with gaming procedures.
- Conduct all financial transactions accurately on the gaming systems.
- Identify and escalate suspicious transactions and possible fraudulent activity to the relevant supervisor.
- Conduct cash-ups and reconcile the float at the end of every service period.
- Substantiate and report on any float variances with supporting documentation.
- Secure and transport the float as required by operational procedures.
- Accurately record guest information and copies of trading and transactional documentation in the system.
- Ensure supporting documents are generated for auditing purposes after every shift.
Minimum Requirements – Cashier

Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent — essential
- Successful completion of the Cashier Training School requirements — essential
Experience:
- Previous experience in a customer-facing or cashiering role — essential
