Functional Area: Operations
Wilderness seeks an experienced Camp General Manager to oversee the smooth operation of its DumaTau luxury safari camp. This leadership role ensures guest satisfaction, staff development, operational excellence, and environmental compliance, while embodying Wilderness’ values and impact strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Experience & Hosting

Serve as brand ambassador, hosting all visiting agents, journalists, and guests.

Ensure personalized, seamless guest experiences, including safety and camp orientation.

Respond promptly and professionally to guest queries, creating “magic moments” during each stay.
Management & Leadership
-
Lead departmental managers and staff, setting quarterly objectives and driving team accountability.

Mentor, train, and develop staff across all camp operations, ensuring succession planning and adherence to policies.

Conduct monthly staff meetings, bi-annual appraisals, and ongoing performance evaluations.
Administration & Operations
-
Oversee camp administration, including contracts, payroll, stock management, and guest information systems.

Manage month-end stocktakes, orders, and resource allocation.

Ensure all camp facilities, assets, and equipment are maintained to the highest standard.

Monitor and report on operational efficiency, implementing continuous improvement strategies.
Environmental Compliance – GEMS
-
Ensure Group Environmental Minimum Standards (GEMS) are met across water, energy, waste, and field systems.

Monitor and train staff on sustainable practices and environmental responsibilities.

Report environmental data and improvements to the regional sustainability teams.
Impact Awareness & Communication

Educate guests and staff about Wilderness’ conservation and community impact strategies.

Promote sustainable practices and responsible travel initiatives.

Integrate impact messaging into guest interactions and team operations.
Minimum Requirements
-
National Diploma in Tourism Management or equivalent.
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience in hospitality, ideally in lodge or safari operations.

Experience managing international guests and high-end travelers.
-
Proven lodge management experience is advantageous.

Computer literacy in MS Office suite.
